Arsenal offered £34 million Bayern Munich ace after claim he’s keen to join

da cassino online: Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign a £34 million Bayern Munich player this summer, as sporting director Edu Gaspar and the club weigh up more potential signings before deadline day.

Arsenal kick off new Premier League season against Wolves

da premier bet: Mikel Arteta faces a tough first few games of the new Premier League season, with a north London derby, a trip to Champions League side Aston Villa and a mouthwatering clash against Man City awaiting them before the end of September.

Suggestion Arsenal are prepared to pay £60m for "unplayable" striker

The north Londoners have been looking at new forwards.

1 ByEmilio Galantini Aug 15, 2024

The Gunners fell agonizingly short of their first Premier League title in 20 years last season, despite pushing Pep Guardiola's eventual champions all the way to the final day. Indeed, Arsenal couldn't quite loosen City's stranglehold on domestic dominance, but Arteta will be aiming to make it third-time-lucky in an attempt to win his side their only league crown in decades.

Wolves await Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium as Arteta gets ready for their first 15:00 kick-off of the new season, all while the transfer window remains open for business, and anything can still happen before it shuts its doors on August 30.

The north Londoners have been linked with bringing in another fresh face ahead of what will be a long and testing campaign. It is believed Arsenal could make an eleventh-hour move for Espanyol's Joan Garcia, once they complete a drawn-out move for Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino.

Edu has been attempting to get a deal for Merino over the line for weeks now, with the Spaniard viewed as a player who could come in to complement the likes of Declan Rice and Jorginho in that central position.

Arsenal have also been heavily linked with a potential new attacking option, and Bayern's Kingsley Coman is among the many names mentioned by media sources in the last fortnight.

Arsenal offered chance to sign Kingsley Coman from Bayern Munich

The Frenchman, who scored five goals and bagged three assists in 27 appearances across all competitions last term, also suffered from an array of injury problems – with both knee and adductor issues keeping him out for long periods.

Bayern's Kingsley Coman

Coman's injury record is a questionable one, and it perhaps put Arteta off. According to GiveMeSport journalist Dean Jones, Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign Coman from Bayern Munich this summer, but it doesn't appear likely that Edu and co will go down that avenue.

Separate reports last week claimed Coman is actually pretty keen on a move to Arsenal, and he'd cost a maximum fee of around £34 million. Yet, despite these factors and obvious quality when available, the 28-year-old doesn't appear close to a north London switch as things stand.

Mohammad Rizwan signs Sussex contract for County Championship, T20 Blast

Mohammad Rizwan will play county cricket for the first time in 2022 after signing a deal to play for Sussex between April and mid-July.Rizwan will arrive in England after the conclusion of Australia’s tour to Pakistan on April 5 and will be available for the majority of the County Championship season and the whole of the T20 Blast. He will open the batting alongside Luke Wright in the Blast, replacing Phil Salt – who has left for Lancashire – as a top-order keeper/batter, and is a replacement for Ben Brown in the Championship side following his request to be released from his contract two years early.Rizwan is the fourth Pakistan international to sign for a county for 2022 after Shan Masood (Derbyshire), Zafar Gohar (Gloucestershire) and Shaheen Shah Afridi (Middlesex) and with a relatively clear window in their international schedule in the first half of the season, it would be no surprise if more players were to follow.Related

Ian Salisbury, Sussex’s Championship and 50-over head coach, said that his former county team-mates Mushtaq Ahmed and Saqlain Mushtaq had provided character references for Rizwan which suggested he would be “a wonderful addition to our dressing room”.”I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t really disappointed to learn we’d be losing a player of Ben Brown’s quality,” Salisbury said. “Now that has happened, though, we have to look forward and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to act quickly over the last week or so to secure the services of one of the world’s best keeper-batters as a replacement.”Mohammad’s first-class and Test records speak for themselves and it’s a huge coup to welcome him to Sussex for a big chunk of next season’s Championship. He and Travis [Head] are exactly the kind of experienced, international cricketers that our emerging lads can learn a huge amount from.”Sussex won the wooden spoon in last year’s County Championship, finishing bottom of Division Three with a young team. As well as Rizwan, they have signed Fynn Hudson-Prentice and Steven Finn this winter and Travis Head is due to return as captain – and the club’s other Championship overseas player – despite struggling in his first season at Hove.James Kirtley, Sussex’s T20 coach, described Rizwan as “one of the most exciting cricketers in the world” and said that he was “an excellent replacement” following Salt’s departure. “I am extremely pleased to be filling that gap with an international player of his calibre,” he said. “He is a natural leader and a player who will inspire. I am very much looking forward to welcoming him to Sussex as the latest in a long line of successful cricketers that have played for Pakistan and Sussex.”

Perfect for UCL: Aston Villa want £325k-p/w "phenomenon" who’s like Benteke

da 888casino: Aston Villa will embark on an exciting adventure when they return to the Champions League next season. It will be their first time playing amongst Europe’s elite since the competition rebranded from the European Cup in 1992. In fact, they haven’t played in the Champions League since 1982/83, having won the whole thing the season before, in 1981/82.

da gbg bet: Villa’s pathway to qualification for the Champions League last season saw them finish fourth in the Premier League, two points clear of Tottenham Hotspur who occupied fifth and therefore the Europa League spot. In total, the Villans ended the campaign with 68 points.

Ollie Watkins for Aston Villa

However, according to Understat’s expected points tally, they hugely exceeded their expectations. In reality, instead of their 68 points, Unai Emery’s side should have got 55.43xPTS, which would have placed them seventh in the top flight instead. However, their overachievement shows just how impressive the Midlands side performed last season.

Indeed, with their Champions League adventure awaiting them next term, the Villans will need to add players to their squad who can enhance their chances of a good performance in the competition. In fact, they have recently been linked with one player who could bring plenty of European experience to their squad.

Aston Villa target Premier League striker

The player in question here is Chelsea and Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku. Since returning to Stamford Bridge for £97.5m in 2021, the all-time record goalscorer for Belgium has become something of an outcast in Blue, and could now permanently leave this summer after several loan spells.

According to a report from Italian news outlet Calcio Mercato, the Villans are ‘pressing hard on the Belgian striker’, and could launch a bid and leave other suitors in the dust as they look to beat competition to his signature.

Indeed, the other side showing the strongest interest in Lukaku this summer is Italian giants Napoli. However, for Gli Azzurri to do a deal this summer, Victor Osimhen must depart the club. The Nigerian striker was linked with Chelsea, but a deal to Stamford Bridge may now be off after they are set to sign Samu Omorodion from Atleti.

Should Villa nip in front of Napoli in the queue to sign Lukaku this summer, they will have to fork out a fee of £30m, assuming Chelsea ask for the same price the 2022/23 Scudetto winners were charged for the Belgian.

Why Lukaku would be a good signing

It has certainly been an interesting few years for Lukaku, who put up some impressive numbers for his second club in Italy, AS Roma. The 31-year-old Belgian scored 21 goals and grabbed four assists in 47 games in all competitions last term. He grabbed 13 goals and three assists in 32 top-flight games in Italy, as well as seven goals and an assist in 13 Europa League games.

One thing that Lukaku can bring to Villa next season if he joins the club that could be crucial is experience and goals in the Champions League. He is vastly experienced in the biggest club competition in Europe and boasts an impressive record.

Stats from Transfermarkt

The 31-year-old’s excellent goalscoring record amongst Europe’s elite is better than some legends of the game. Italian icon Francesco Totti has only scored 17 goals in the Champions League, and legendary Brazilian striker Ronaldo boasts just 14 goals in 40 games.

Having played in a Champions League final, albeit ending up on the losing side, the former Inter striker could bring plenty of experience to a Villa side taking an unknown step into arguably club football's biggest competition.

Not only will he bring goals and experience in the Champions League, but the signing of the Chelsea man would mean he is the first Belgian striker to play for the club since Christian Benteke between 2012 and 2015.

The Belgian, who, like Lukaku, is something of a journeyman himself, was superb for the Villans during his time at the club. He played 101 games, getting himself on the scoresheet 49 times as well as grabbing 12 assists, before getting a big £32.5m move to Liverpool.

Benteke was a talisman for Villa, and the signing of Lukaku would certainly have shades of that prior deal, given he has an exceptional goalscoring record and could become a cult hero at Villa Park if he manages to find his best form.

One of the only stumbling blocks for a deal to sign Lukaku for Villa this summer could be his wages. The 31-year-old is currently earning an eye-watering £325k per week at Stamford Bridge according to Capology, which would see him be the highest earner at Villa Park by some distance.

The highest-paid players in Claret and Blue currently are Boubacar Kamara and his Belgium teammate Youri Tielemans, who both earn £150k per week. The Chelsea striker currently earns £175k per week more than those, and even if he accepted a wage reduction, it could be hard to negotiate a weekly wage in line with Villa’s current wage structure.

Sky Sports presenter Dougie Critchley once described Lukaku as an “absolute phenomenon”, and if he can rediscover his best form, such as what he showed at Everton or during his first spell at Inter, Villa could have one of the best strikers in the Premier League on their hands.

Inter Milan's former loan striker Romelu Lukaku.

There is no doubting Lukaku’s quality, and if he gets on a goalscoring run, Emery’s side could find themselves progressing through the Champions League thanks to one of the most exciting strikers of his generation.

Resurgent India must win big against undaunted Scotland, and then hope for the best

Scotland can’t qualify, but a statement against a top side won’t do any harm to their reputation

Big pictureRoyal Challengers Bangalore need to win their next two and hope Chennai Super Kings beat Kolkata Knight Riders by a certain margin, and then… Rings a bell? It should. For Virat Kohli at least. Used to dealing with a lot of those in the IPL, he and his Indian team have had to do quite a bit of it at the T20 World Cup too.India’s fate is not entirely in their hands, but they need to win big in their next two games to elevate their just-positive net run-rate. Group 2 scenarios: India stay in the hunt

On Wednesday, they did wonderfully well, running New Zealand close in a very big chase and giving them the jitters, for a while at least. One big partnership, one better death over, one small push – that’s how close they were from causing an upset that would have won them many Indian fans. If they can sustain that momentum and run India close, it will be a giant leap for them – though it might not help with Indian fans much.Against Afghanistan, India’s top four – for the day – fired in unison, sustaining aggression and momentum right through the innings, something they hadn’t done in their first two games. They would have, however, liked to win by a bigger margin after removing the cream of Afghanistan’s batting by the halfway mark. They ended up conceding 56 off the last five overs, and will hope to close out better with the ball against Scotland, while hoping the batting carries on in similar fashion. It’s all pretty clear. A big win is a non-negotiable for India; they wouldn’t want to leave too much ground to cover in the final game against Namibia, should Afghanistan beat New Zealand. Scotland might have done well, very well, over the years, but they wouldn’t get the attention they will if they beat India. That is motivation enough.Form guideIndia WLLLL (last five completed matches, most recent first)

In the spotlightHardik Pandya’s immediate white-ball future could hinge on his ability to bowl consistently, apart from offering lower-order batting muscle. Against Afghanistan, he was far from being in rhythm in his two expensive overs, but his six-laden 13-ball 35* helped no end. But, well, he is an allrounder. As an opener, George Munsey can access parts of the ground few batters in the current Scotland team can. And the ability to do it in the powerplay makes him a dangerous proposition. But, so far this tournament, while he has given glimpses of this ability, he has failed to convert his starts, 29 being his highest in six innings.

Journalist: Celtic could lose £8,600-a-week ace who Ange Postecoglou liked

da esport bet: Celtic have received an offer for a player who Ange Postecoglou admired during his time as manager, according to an update from Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph.

Celtic transfer news

da dobrowin: The Hoops are preparing for yet another defence of their Scottish Premiership title, but Brendan Rodgers will know the importance of adding to his squad to stave off the threat of rivals Rangers, as well as making sure they are as best equipped as possible to do well in the Champions League.

Celtic have been backed to make a move for Burnley centre-back Dara O'Shea, while reports have also claimed that Royal Antwerp ace Michel-Ange Balikwisha, Wolves left-back Hugo Bueno and ex-Hoops striker Adam Idah are all targets, too.

In the case of Bueno, the Scottish giants are believed to have made a new approach to snap him up, seeing him as a standout choice to add quality at left-back.

Meanwhile, Tanner Tessman has also been linked with joining Celtic in the current transfer window, with the United States international currently plying his trade at newly promoted Serie A side Venezia. He only has one cap to his name for his country, but will be hoping to force his way into their plans more often ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Celtic could lose player who Postecoglou admired

Taking to X, Sky Sports journalist Joseph claimed that Celtic have received a loan offer from Belgian club KV Mechelen for Stephen Welsh, suggesting the 24-year-old could depart this summer amid interest elsewhere from English Championship clubs:

In truth, this feels like the right time for Welsh to at least be sent out on loan somewhere, or even seal a permanent move away from Celtic, given his lack of football recently. Last season, the defender was limited to just five appearances in the Scottish Premiership, with a further five coming from the substitutes' bench, although an ankle injury did keep him out for an extended period of time.

While Rodgers may not see much of a future for the centre-back at Parkhead, he could be a good signing for another team, having averaged 2.8 successful aerial duels per game last term – the fifth-best total in the squad – as well as once being hailed by Postecoglou, who said of him:

"Welshy has shown a lot of growth. I expect that from all the players. He has come back for pre-season and worked really hard through it. We are challenging him to take his game to another level. He has definitely gone up a level from last year and hopefully he knows that we will try to get even more out of him."

Imagine him & Palma: Celtic in talks to sign "exciting" £10k-p/w dynamo

The Hoops are reportedly pushing to secure a deal for the Premier League defender.

ByDan Emery Jul 26, 2024

The fact that the £8,600-a-week Welsh has never started more than 10 league games in a campaign for Celtic speaks volumes about his squad status, so a move away would arguably suit all parties.

Could England captain Eoin Morgan drop himself? 'It's always an option'

Morgan says Liam Livingstone is “fully fit” after injuring his finger during the warm-up match

Eoin Morgan has said he would be willing to drop himself from the team if it increased England’s chances of winning the T20 World Cup. Morgan has been short on T20 runs this year, averaging 16.63 with a highest score of 47 not out from 35 innings, but his credentials as a captain – he comes into the World Cup off the back of leading Kolkata Knight Riders to the final of the IPL – remain unimpeachable.Morgan, who confirmed that Liam Livingstone was “fully fit” despite injuring his finger while fielding against India, will have a chance to find some form in England’s second warm-up match, against New Zealand on Wednesday. He only reached double-figures once in nine innings during the second half of the IPL, but nevertheless oversaw an impressive turnaround in Knight Riders’ form as they came within a game of winning their first title since 2014.Related

I’ve been short of runs but my captaincy has been pretty good, as it goes. So, yes is the answer.”Not being a bowler and being a bit older and not contributing as much in the field, I’ve loved the role of captain. You get two bites at the cherry impacting the game. As regards my batting, I wouldn’t be standing here if I hadn’t come out of every bad run of form that I’d ever had. The nature of T20 cricket and where I bat means I always have to take quite high-risk options and I’ve come to terms with that. It’s just something you deal with, it’s the nature of the job so I’m going to continue taking those risks if the team dictates they need them.”England are the reigning 50-over world champions and go into the T20 World Cup looking to become the first team to hold both trophies at the same time. They have enjoyed sustained success under Morgan and are currently ranked as the ICC’s No. 1 side in T20Is – although conditions in the UAE could work against them, with India the bookies’ favourites for the competition.”I think it’ll be unbelievably special if we manage to do it,” Morgan said. “I think that the group of players that we’ve had together for the last five or six years, alongside some new, really talented and young guys coming through, who have really made a name for themselves, makes the composition of the squad extremely strong. Obviously playing away from home creates challenges, and for the first time since 2016 we’re going into a world tournament where we haven’t been favourites. So again, there are some challenges, but challenges that we’ve overcome in bilateral series on previous occasions, and challenges that we’re really looking forward to.”We’re always trying to push the limits, we’re always trying to get better as a side, and since 2019 our cricket has been as consistent as ever, I think, in the T20 format which is extremely difficult to do when there’s been chopping and changing the whole time. And I think with the opportunity of not only this World Cup but next year’s as well, there’s a real chance of being contenders.”Morgan comes into the T20 World Cup having led Kolkata to the IPL final•Deepak Malik/BCCI

Morgan also suggested that the slightly expanded Super 12s format, with the top two in each group of six progressing to the semi-finals, would give the best teams a greater chance, by lessening any “banana skin potential” before finding their stride.”I think with the new format and the larger group as your first challenge throughout the tournament, I suppose you don’t have to be coming into the tournament as you think you might do in previous years, when one game might cost you qualifying,” he said.”With more games it allows you to establish some form as a side and almost gather momentum into the tournament. Whereas I think in previous years, the tournaments that I’ve played – 2009 getting out of the group stage was extremely difficult, 2010 when we won was unbelievably difficult, likewise 2016 when we got to the final, we scraped through the group stages, and the two in between we were bundled out in the group stages. So I think there’s a little bit more leeway with this new format.”England are set to wait until they see the surface that awaits them for their Group 1 opener in Dubai on Saturday before deciding on the make-up of their side, following Morgan’s experience at the same venues with Knight Riders during the IPL. He did confirm that England would be taking a knee alongside West Indies before the game, and were in discussions about the possibility of other gestures during the tournament.”Going on from there, we’ve been speaking to the ICC about the potential moment of unity before the game, that we’ve been doing as part of our own piece at home. It hasn’t been cleared up yet whether that’s a possibility.”
