Chelsea considering deal for £20 million striker with 148 career goals

da betcris: Chelsea are considering a deal for a prolific striker who's scored 148 career goals at club level, and he could even leave for just £20 million this summer.

Chelsea targeting new striker and winger for Maresca

da bet sport: New head coach Enzo Maresca has been seriously backed by Todd Boehly so far this transfer window, with Chelsea spending over £90 million on the signings of Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, Omari Kellyman, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Brazilian starlet Estevao Willian and newest addition Renato Veiga from FC Basel.

Chelsea planning seven-year deal offer to sign Raheem Sterling replacement

Veiga passed his Chelsea medical on Wednesday and becomes the latest addition to Maresca's squad, taking Chelsea's expenditure to exactly £93 million on incomings with £89 million made back through player sales (Nizaar Kinsella).

While Boehly and BlueCo have spent lavishly yet again, their net spend of around £4 million, when factoring in departures, has seemingly put Chelsea in good stead in regard to PSR.

Attention now turns to whether the west Londoners will look to sign a senior attacking option, as has been widely reported. Chelsea are keen on signing a right-winger to alternate or even replace the likes of Raheem Sterling, Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke.

Indeed, Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi has been heavily linked this week for that role as one option. It is rumoured by some media outlets that Chelsea are planning to offer Adeyemi a seven-year contract to join them, and are ready to make a bid for his signature.

The 22-year-old could also cost just £25 million to prise away from Dortmund, which may well be in Boehly's thinking. In terms of an out-and-out striker, links remain to Napoli star Victor Osimhen, but the Nigerian will be a costly operation.

Napoli star Victor Osimhen

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is holding firm on Osimhen's £110 million release clause for the time being, which may have motivated Chelsea to look elsewhere in search of a new number nine.

Lille star Jonathan David, who's been highly prolific in Ligue 1 for a few years now, could be a far cheaper alternative to Osimhen. The 24-year-old, who's racked up an impressive tally of 148 career goals already for club and country, could be available for a cheaper price at around £20 million.

Chelsea considering deal for Lille star Jonathan David

That is according to 90min, who also claim that Chelsea are considering a deal to sign David from Lille this summer among other names.

Canadian striker Jonathan David

The Canada international has already scored 27 goals over 53 caps for his country as well, making it quite a surprise that David has not secured a big blockbuster transfer just yet. Chelsea may well offer him that chance, but they face competition from their London rivals in Tottenham and West Ham, who are also eyeing moves.

The Blues have not yet made an official decision on whether to formalise their interest in David, but his age, goalscoring record and price tag arguably make this a no-brainer.

Batting coach Das backs 'world-class' Mandhana to come good

He also confirmed that Harmanpreet Kaur’s thumb injury would keep her out of the second ODI

Shiv Sunder Das, the India Women batting coach, believes scoring at least 60 runs in the powerplay could in some measure help address the team’s inability to post competitive totals in ODIs. He echoed captain Mithali Raj when emphasising the role of openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma in achieving that goal, and backed Mandhana’s “ability to get runs for us”.Related

Shiv Sunder Das named India Women batting coach for England tour

“We have been working on that aspect of the game,” Das said of India’s innings-construction plans ahead of the second ODI. “We have blocked 10 overs each for each batter. We are looking at a good start to start with and, obviously, in the middle overs we are looking at an average of five runs [per over] and at the end we’re looking at six runs per over. Basically, that is our batting plan.”In the nets we have tried a few things. It’s about the individual – how they react to the game, especially at the start of the innings. We have Shafali Verma and Smriti, so basically we are looking at a good start. Obviously, [in the] last few games we didn’t have a good start, [but] I am very positive as the batting coach. They’ll put up a good start and once you put up a good start of about 60-70 runs in 10 overs, that momentum you can carry into the middle overs. You will see the difference tomorrow.”In their last 10 ODIs, India have only twice scored more than 50 in the first 10 overs, with a best score of 57 for 1 in the third ODI against South Africa in March. On three occasions, they’ve failed to reach the 40 mark within the first 10 overs. After India’s crushing nine-wicket defeat in the opening ODI on Tuesday, Raj had said she expected the experienced Mandhana to take the lead and contribute more runs at the top of the order. She called for the openers to put on at least 50 to alleviate the pressure on the middle order. Das, for his part, was hopeful Mandhana would be able to live up to her role in the forthcoming ODIs.”I had a one-to-one chat with her [Mandhana] and in the last two sessions we have worked hard in the nets,” Das said. “We have addressed a few issues and, as you know, she is a world-class player, and we are backing her ability to get runs for us. Definitely we will see the difference in tomorrow’s game.”Das also confirmed that India will be without their designated vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur for a second straight match given she is yet to recover from the thumb injury she sustained at training last week.Harmanpreet Kaur’s thumb injury will keep her out of the second ODI as well•Annesha Ghosh/ESPNcricinfo

Appointed India’s batting coach on a tour-by-tour basis for the away series against England in June, Das was one of the few members on the coaching staff to be retained for the Australia assignment. A former Test opener, he previously worked with the India Women A team, including during the 2020 quadrangular series in Patna, and was roped in for the England series – which, like the ongoing tour, featured a standalone Test – primarily owing to his experience as a Test and first-class cricketer.Strike rotation, he said, remains a primary area of concern for the India line-up. He also stressed that a largely young and inexperienced line-up would need a little more time to get used to Australian conditions.”The first ten overs… we have addressed that issue,” Das said. “The running between the wickets is an area we are still working on. It’s a work in progress; you have to see there are a few young batters in our side and it’s a good side. You have to give them some time. Once they get used to these conditions, I think they will definitely fire.”We have been working on a few aspects of the rotation of strike. Basically we’re focused on their strengths. Now, because it’s in [the middle of] the series, we have identified a few areas. It’s a work in progress. Definitely in the future series, they’ll definitely come good.”If you see our team, we have a lot of youngsters. Yastika [Bhatia] got an opportunity; she batted well. It’s definitely a new challenge for them. All these wickets – they are good batting wickets, and I hope they’ll perform well tomorrow.”To counter Australia’s short-ball ploy, which reaped the hosts high dividends in the first ODI, Das said India had chalked up plans in their practice sessions, especially against the 18-year-old quick Darcie Brown, who took 4 for 33 on Tuesday. She had accounted for Verma and Deepti Sharma with short-pitched deliveries.”The last two days we had net sessions, particularly because she bowls back-of-the-hand short balls, so we have identified a few areas and all the top-order batters, we have had a plan and I have had a one-to-one chat with them,” Das said. “I think we’ll see the difference in tomorrow’s game.”

Bangladesh Women to tour Zimbabwe for ODIs in November

The bilateral series will be Bangladesh’s first international assignment since the T20 World Cup last year

Bangladesh are set to play a three-match ODI series against hosts Zimbabwe in November before the two sides enter the biobubble for the 10-team women’s ODI World Cup Qualifier to be played in the African nation. The bilateral series will be Bangladesh’s first international assignment since the T20 World Cup held in Australia in February-March last year.”The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Zimbabwe Cricket have had talks regarding this series and it was decided our women’s team will be play three ODIs against Zimbabwe ahead of the World Cup Qualifier,” Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, the head of BCB’s women cricket wing told ESPNcricinfo. “We have stuck to just the ODI matches for the bilateral series because the qualifier are in the one-day format and it will serve as an important preparatory exercise for our team in terms of getting match time before the qualifier.”Since the 2020 T20 World Cup, where Bangladesh were eliminated in the league stage, the only top-flight competitive cricket the players took part in was in April, when the South Africa Emerging side had toured Sylhet for a five-game one-day series. The fifth match, however, was cancelled “to accommodate the visiting side’s return home before the suspension of international flight operations” following a Covid-19-induced lockdown in Bangladesh,” a BCB release said at the time.Asked about Bangladesh’s protracted time away from international cricket, stretching to 18 months at present, Nadel said: “We had been trying to organise tours for Bangladesh Women for a long time, but our plans didn’t come off. The coronavirus pandemic was a reason but we came across hurdles arising from issues related to sports and social-cultural perceptions that exist in the subcontinent – I won’t name the countries but we didn’t agree to conduct tours with a few of them because of this reason.”Unfortunately, roadblocks continue to exist around women’s sport, related to prevailing gender inequality, even though we continue to work to eradicate them. The investment required to create a biobubble is significant for a women’s team; we often don’t get that from our sponsors. Sponsors and investors expect mileage out of every series they invest in, and against that backdrop, that doesn’t seem to be possible now (with the women’s side), so the matches against Zimbabwe is all we have been able to finalise.”Related

Zimbabwe to host Women's ODI World Cup qualifier

The qualifying event, delayed twice due to the pandemic, runs from November 21 to December 5, with Bangladesh, who last played an ODI series in November 2019, expected to depart for Zimbabwe on November 4 or 5. The visitors’ coaching staff, Nadel said, would comprise only local personnel, considering the BCB has not found a suitable candidate yet for the head coach role, a position that has remained vacant since the muddled exit of former India captain Anju Jain in June 2020 following the end of her contract two months earlier. The BCB had formally invited applications for the head coach’s job in May, with June 10 the deadline. However, ESPNcricinfo understands a raft of pandemic-enforced last-minute withdrawals by high-profile foreign candidates either side of publication of the job advert derailed the BCB’s plans of filling up the post. Mark Robinson, who coached England to the 2017 women’s World Cup title at home, was among them.Nadel said the BCB remains focused on hiring a foreign national as head coach, as has been “the tradition over the recent past,” but even if the board ends up shortlisting applicants before the Zimbabwe tour, he made it clear the appointment would be made only after the qualifier.”We have several reputed coaches in the national pool who work with women cricketers. And we have seen interest from foreign coaches, too, not to mention our last few national head coaches for the women’s team have been from overseas,” Nadel said. “Our team is still relatively inexperienced on the international stage, so went want to avail of the services of coaches with strong international experience because we want our women’s team to be mentally strong. That’s the reason we’re looking for a foreign coach.”That said, we are not looking to hire a coach from abroad for the Zimbabwe series or the World Cup Qualifier because we don’t think 15 days or a month would be adequate time for the coach to get to know the players, assess their strengths and weaknesses, or prepare them accordingly,” he said. “So, we want to use our local coaches for these assignments.”To get preparations for the tour of Zimbabwe underway, the BCB recently organised a skills-and-fitness camp at BKSP Ground in Savar for 60 women cricketers, the board’s 22 centrally contracted players included. The camp began on August 14, ran in two phases, and ended with a four-team, 50-over tournament. The final of the seven-match competition was held on September 11 and saw Bangladesh regulars in Salma Khatun, Fargana Hoque, Shamima Sultana, Rumana Ahmed, Khadija Tul Kubra, Lata Mondal lock horns in the Eastern vs Southern clash. The other two teams – Northern and Western – featured the likes of Jahanara Alam and Murshida Khatun among other prominent names from the national side.According to Nadel, the camp was held under the watch of six coaches with prior experience of working with women cricketers in Bangladesh: Wahidul Gani, Dipu Roy, Ruhul Amin, Faruque, Shanu and Emon, some of whom who are expected to accompany Bangladesh on the Zimbabwe tour and oversee the World Cup Qualifier campaign. The three qualifiers for the 2022 ODI World Cup as well as the next two teams will book places in the next ICC Women’s Championship along with the top five from last time, as the ICC increased the number of teams in the third cycle of the IWC from eight to 10. Bangladesh, currently ranked eighth in the ODI team rankings, were not part of the previous IWC cycles. In T20I rankings, they hold the No. 9 position.

Diante do bombardeio bugrino, o arqueiro do Santos praticou defesas incríveis e fez o técnico Daniel Paulista lamentar o empate.

Saio satisfeito’, afirmou.

Edu could now make new bid to sign former Arsenal academy player this week

The north Londoners are yet to make an outfield signing this summer and have been one of the least-busy Premier League sides of the window, with Edu and Arsenal chiefs looking to change that with a potential deal for Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori.

Talks have been ongoing to sign the 22-year-old for nearly a fortnight. Fabrizio Romano shared news that Arsenal opened talks with Bologna to sign Calafiori around 13 days ago, with the Italian international already agreeing personal terms on a five-year contract at the Emirates.

Fresh reports out of Italy today have claimed this deal is being held up by the 50 per cent sell-on clause due to FC Basel. Indeed, newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport states that Bologna are pushing Basel to lower Calafiori's sell-on clause before they sell to Arsenal, so this will be an intriguing one to watch.

Arsenal face off against Bournemouth for their first pre-season friendly of the USA in around six days, and Arteta would surely like Calafiori or any other major acquisition through the door before then, as he prepares his squad for another Premier League title challenge.

Arsenal also want to sign a new goalkeeper for Arteta, despite Raya's permanent deal, with current number two Aaron Ramsdale widely tipped to find a new club in the coming weeks after losing his place in the starting eleven.

Edu could table new Arsenal bid to sign Daniel Bentley this week

According to The Athletic, Wolves keeper and former Arsenal academy gem Daniel Bentley is still well and truly on their radar.

Daniel Bentley on Premier League debut.

Arsenal had an opening bid rejected for Bentley last week, but the reliable media source claims that they may well go back in with an improved proposal imminently. The Athletic state that Edu could table a new Arsenal bid to sign Bentley this week, despite sealing a deal for highly-rated young shot-stopper Tommy Setford from Ajax.

Wolves snubbed Arsenal's first bid of around £50,000, so it appears Arteta's side will need to aim much higher. Gary O'Neil has called Bentley "excellent" for some of his performances when called upon, and the 30-year-old's experience is said to be a draw.

Imagine him & Fernandes: Man Utd submit bid for midfield ‘destroyer’

da bet7: If there is one area of the squad for Manchester United that needs rebuilding during the 2024 summer transfer window, it is the midfield. It could be decimated this summer, with player departures and potential sales in the middle of the park, too.

da fazobetai: There are some players who are guaranteed to stay at Old Trafford. Captain Bruno Fernandes has been linked with a move away to Saudi Arabia but seems likely to stay. Mason Mount and exciting youngster Kobbie Mainoo will also stay at the club ahead of next season.

In terms of departures in midfield, one has already occurred. Sofyan Amrabat’s loan has expired, and he has now left the club. However, there are talks of the club negotiating a new deal to keep the player at the club, which could be at lower terms than the buy clause in his old loan deal.

The trio of Casemiro, Scott McTominay and Christian Eriksen could also all leave Old Trafford this summer. The Daily Mail reported in April the trio were part of a ten-player list who could exit the club.

casemiro-manchester-united-mctominay-ten-hag-donny-van-de-beek

With that in mind, United will certainly need to add to their depth in midfield this summer. They have recently been linked with one player who could add depth and quality to the middle of the park.

Man Utd target Ligue 1 midfielder

The player in question here is Paris Saint Germain and Uruguay midfielder Manuel Ugarte. Despite only playing for one season with the French champions, Ugarte could depart the club this summer.

According to a report from Le 10 Sport, United are 'exerting a lot of pressure behind the scenes' on PSG in order to get a deal over the line, with the board 'very optimistic' about getting a deal done for Ugarte.

The report suggests the Red Devils have tabled an offer for the 23-year-old midfielder worth £38m, which has been 'accompanied by several bonuses'. It's further explained that PSG head coach, Luis Enrique, will have the final say and could decide he wants to keep Ugarte.

Whilst United lead the race for the Uruguay international, they are not the only club interested in signing the midfielder. United’a Mancunian rivals Manchester City, as well as Spanish giants Barcelona, are also interested in adding the tough-tackling Uruguay to their squad to bolster their midfield options.

Why Ugarte would be a good signing

It may be somewhat surprising that PSG are willing to move on Ugarte just a year after they signed him from Sporting for £51.1m. He played 37 times for PSG last term, which included only 25 games in Ligue 1.

The defensive midfielder plays in a similar mould to France and Chelsea legend N’Golo Kante. Like the World Cup winner, Ugarte is a tough-tackling midfielder, who one analyst praising his “aggressiveness, tenacity and determination” off the ball.

Indeed, this is reflected in his FBref stats, too. The PSG midfielder averages 2.32 tackles won per 90 minutes, and 1.86 interceptions made. This places him in the top 2% and top 4% amongst midfielders in Europe respectively.

Not only that, Ugarte reads the game very well and has excellent recovery pace, something that is reflected in his ball recovery stats per 90. The Uruguay international averages an impressive 8.14 ball recoveries, which ranks him in the top 1%. It really is no wonder that he was described as a "destroyer" by football analyst Ben Mattinson on X.

As a result, the Uruguay international could become the perfect partner for United’s captain Fernandes, given his defensive ability. It would allow the Portugal international to have less defensive responsibility and flourish more in the final third.

Last season, Fernandes’ 18 Premier League goals and assists were the most amongst United’s squad, as per Sofascore. If he was freed up even more with Ugarte behind him, then we could well see Fernandes’ numbers explode further.

A partnership of Ugarte and Fernandes could well be a match made in heaven for United. Not only do the Red Devils get to add a tenacious defensive midfielder to their squad, who is happy to do the dirty work, but he could help unlock their captain and allow him great freedom in the final third. For just £38m, it could be the dream deal for United to do this summer.
