da apostebet: Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl has taken a "major" action to lift his side after Monday's 2-0 defeat to Middlesbrough.
Damaging defeat at Riverside
da pinnacle: The Owls were back in Championship action on Easter Monday, making the trip to Boro for an important clash, but the performance they produced at the Riverside Stadium left a lot to be desired. In the end, Rohl's side were comprehensively beaten by their opponents, who also missed a penalty late in the day, with the visitors only having 35% possession in the game and managing just two shots on target.
For a Wednesday team who are battling for their lives at the bottom of the Championship, it was a display lacking intent, quality and heart, and the manager was not remotely amused after the game.
It was a rollocking that was richly deserved, considering how poor the display was, and the hope is that it produces a reaction in the coming matches.
Journalist reacts to big Rohl's rant
Taking to X, Alex Miller shared his thoughts on Rohl's angry reaction to Wednesday's loss at Middlesbrough, saying it feels like a potentially deciding moment in the run-in.
"Danny Rohl's angry, public post-match hairdryer felt like a major moment, a signal that the time for niceties is over. He'd sought to protect his players before by sticking his own hand up after heavy defeats. The reaction will be fascinating."
It did definitely feel significant that Rohl essentially decided to call his players out, having spent so much time backing them since arriving as manager earlier in the season, even when a performance or a result hasn't been good enough. Monday's performance appeared to be one too many for the German, however, who will be demanding so much more from his players between now and the end of the season.

Other results didn't go Wednesday's way during the afternoon, too, with the likes of Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham City and QPR all winning, and they will return to League One if there isn't a major improvement, starting away to the latter on Saturday afternoon.
There are still six matches remaining for the Owls, and only two points separate them from safety, but if they play in such a feeble manner in the last few fixtures, they will have little to no hope of avoiding the drop, ruining all of the manager's hard work.
The Queensland paceman has been a regular in Test squads but is still waiting for that dream debut
Andrew McGlashan08-Apr-2020It has become a regular sight around Australia Test squads: Michael Neser bowling over after over in the nets, troubling the best batsmen, then getting the tap on the shoulder from Justin Langer to say he would be carrying the drinks again. The pace attack, arguably the best in the world, is a mighty tough unit to break in to, but Neser is determined not to be Australia’s nearly man.Neser, who was first part of the Test set-up for the series against Pakistan in the UAE, was ever present in Australia’s squads during the summer against Pakistan and New Zealand having also been part of the Ashes tour. However, to date, his only international honours remain two ODIs against England as part of the patched-up side that was whitewashed in 2018.While his first opportunity came with the white ball, it is with the red (and especially the Duke) where Neser has become a supremely consistent operator. On Wednesday he was named Queensland’s player of the season after a Sheffield Shield campaign where he claimed 33 wickets at 17.30. Over the last three seasons he has taken 105 Shield wickets for Queensland at 20.79.ALSO READ: ESPNcricinfo Sheffield Shield team of the seasonHowever, that final step to the baggy green continued to remain elusive with the hefty line-up of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and James Pattinson ahead of him. While Neser admitted it is deflating to be told to carry the drinks – he believes his 12th-man tally is at least 10 Tests now – he will keep plugging away at the dream.”You can see the cherry there and you want it, but just can’t get it,” he said. “So it is deflating every time you aren’t selected, but at the same time I’m using that as fuel. It drives me to be better. The good thing is I’m being surrounded by the best players in the world, every training session is so intense and you are learning every session. I’m getting better just being surrounded by those players. But I’ve been through it before with Queensland when I was a youngster, was on the sidelines quite a bit, and it drove me to be better and it’s the same approach with Australia every time I’m not selected.”
Neser’s plans for the Australian off-season have been scuppered by the coronavirus which has led to the cancellation of his contract with Surrey, but he is trying to see the silver lining in the situation and will use the enforced downtime to work on his fitness – which will likely include plenty of hill running near his Brisbane home – having carried some hamstring issues through the recent summer.”I feel like I’ve still got room to improve, in my end of season reviews I said I didn’t want to plateau,” he said. “Physically I have this chance now to get better, I was probably carrying a couple of niggles throughout the year, but was just trying to stay on the park. I have to take a positive out of the negative.”The reason I’ve started to play a lot better is that in the past I was getting injured all the time and I’ve found a way to stay on the park. I’ve improved from purely playing more cricket. Hopefully I stay on the park and keep putting performances together because I still do have the drive to play Test cricket, it’s something I really want to do.”From a domestic point of view, Neser admitted the way the Sheffield Shield season was curtailed still stings although he completely understood why it couldn’t be completed. Queensland had a chance to push for a spot in the final with New South Wales, who were declared champions when the last round and the final were scrapped.”It was a horrible way to finish the season, just didn’t feel right,” he said. “Obviously it was the right decision with the coronavirus. I still felt we were in with a shot, a chance to make the finals, then you never know what could happen. At the end of the day it was the right decision but still feel a bit of a hole in my heart thinking what if we could have won the Shield.”

da leao: Leeds United were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2022/23 campaign after three years in the top division of English football.
da cassino online: Whilst it was bitterly disappointing for the club and the supporters after getting a taste of the top-flight, the relegation to the Championship has provided a number of players with a chance to hit their stride in a Whites shirt.
Georgino Rutter and Crysencio Summerville, for example, have both emerged as first-team stars in the second tier after their respective struggles for game time in the Premier League last term.
Georginio Rutter
Left-back Junior Firpo is another player who has benefitted from playing at a lower level, and manager Daniel Farke has played a blinder with the former Barcelona defender after Victor Orta brought him to the club.
Junior Firpo's Premier League struggles
Journalist Scott Saunders described the full-back as an "absolute disaster" during the 2022/23 Premier League season, as the left-footed dud struggled badly in the top-flight.
Firpo ranked within the bottom 27% of top-flight full-backs for pass completion rate at 73.1%, and the bottom 32% for shot-creating actions (1.38) per 90, which illustrates how wasteful and ineffective he was on the ball.
The 27-year-old flop, who assisted one goal in 19 league games, also let his side down with his lack of physicality as he lost 51% of his ground duels in the league, which means that opposition players were able to get the better of him more often than not.
Leeds United defender Junior Firpo.
Therefore, Firpo, who was dribbled past 23 times in 14 starts, did not offer quality for Leeds in or out of possession as they were relegated to the Championship.
He did not provide a creative threat down the left flank in the Premier League, whilst oppositon forwards were able to beat him with ease down the wing, which is why the defender was described as a 'disaster'.
Daniel Farke's Junior Firpo blinder
German head coach Farke arrived at Elland Road last summer and has deployed an exciting and dynamic style of play that is good to watch, as explained by BBC pundit Jobi McAnuff earlier this year.
The Whites typically line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation and look to dominate possession to consistently create chances, which has got the best out of Firpo – who has completed 82% of his attempted passes in the division.
He missed the opening months of the campaign with a knee injury but has emerged as the manager's first-choice option at left-back, and caught the eye with his superb performances.

As you can see in the table above, Firpo's displays on the pitch have been significantly better than his showings in the Premier League last term, with seven times as many 'big chances' created and a 6% higher success rate in ground duels.
The former Barcelona defender was hailed as a real "threat" in the final third by Farke, who claimed that Leeds would not be able to afford the left-back if he had been playing as well as he has this season in the top-flight.
It has been a blinder by the German boss to unlock the full-back's attacking potential, even if it has been in the Championship, with his dynamic and front-footed system.
Hopefully, should he remain at Elland Road, Firpo will be able to carry that form over to the Premier League if the Whites are promoted this season.

Quando foi contratado pelo Flamengo, a torcida comemorou. da doce: Tottenham have entered the "front row" to sign one club's "most important" £30 million player this summer, according to a fresh claim this week.
Spurs set sights on new midfielder
da spicy bet: A lot of rumours have centred around Spurs and their potential bid for a new forward, with the likes of Wolves star Pedro Neto and Crystal Palace attacking ace Eberechi Eze now repeatedly mentioned as targets for Ange Postecoglou.

However, there are other areas of the squad which technical director Johan Lange and chief football officer Scott Munn will want to address later in the year. Indeed, there have been suggestions that a new central midfielder could be in the offing and one who is more tailor-made to Postecoglou's system.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has seen his game time severely limited since the Australian's arrival last summer, with the vast majority of his appearances coming off the substitute's bench as he was demoted to more of a bit-part squad role.
This led to reports in the build-up to January and beforehand that Spurs were plotting a move for Chelsea star Conor Gallagher as the Dane's replacement, and their interest in the rival midfielder is apparently maintained heading into the next transfer window.
tottenham-conor-gallagher-dream-xi-jan-opinion
Tottenham are reportedly ready to make an approach for Gallagher, but a lot could hinder on whether he ends up putting pen to paper on a new contract. The 24-year-old's current deal expires at the end of next season, meaning Spurs may be sensing an opportunity to sign him for lower than market value, as Chelsea don't want to lose him for nothing in 2025.
However, if Gallagher does end up agreeing fresh terms, a move for him could be all but over from Lange's perspective. As a result, there are alternative options which Tottenham are exploring, and one of them is rumoured to be Atalanta star Ederson.

Tottenham in the "front row" to sign Ederson
According to Calciomercato, Tottenham are now "in the front row" to sign Ederson this summer alongside Newcastle United, and his club are asking for around £30 million to do business.
Given his growing reputation, that price tag seems pretty fair, with South American football expert Tim Vickery telling supporters all they need to know about the midfielder.
Atalanta midfielder Ederson
"24-years-old, strong, well-built central midfielder. Strong on the ball, versatile, box-to-box. Strong personality as well," said Vickery.
"The first time I remember him was his professional debut really. He was thrown in the deep end in a big team called Cruzeiro, who were really on the slide. They were relegated in dreadful form and even in this bad context, he stood out, so a lot of virtues."
Former Atalanta star German Denis has also called Ederson the club's "most important" player.

The challenge of opening, keeping and captaining is one that few players have managed successfullly
Firdose Moonda10-Mar-2020
Quinton de Kock looks on•Getty Images
Quinton de Kock is a man of few words and he had just one when he was appointed South Africa’s permanent white-ball captain and asked if he would consider giving up the wicketkeeping gloves to accommodate the extra responsibility:”No.”It was one of the few times de Kock has been adamant, even aggressive, when answering questions. He usually mumbles and stumbles his way through in that charmingly naive way that people who don’t like to speak in public have when they are forced to. But on the issue of the triple-task of leading the team, opening the batting and keeping wicket, de Kock was unequivocal that he wanted to do it all. It’s a job only three other players have done for more than 10 matches across all formats and one that, if it goes well, could see him involved in every ball of every match. Rather than express concerns about overload, de Kock said it was essential that he does it that way because he regarded glovework as “the one thing that helps me with my captaincy and my batting”. And the early evidence suggests he is not wrong.ESPNcricinfo Ltd
In 16 matches in his new super-role, de Kock has a marginally higher-batting average than in the 194 in which he has not been a three-in-one. He has scored a century and seven fifties, has caught everything that has come his way and though he led South Africa to three series defeats, he also oversaw an ODI clean-sweep over Australia – no mean feat in their toughest summer since readmission. But is it sustainable? Andy Flower, who did the same job 13 times between 1993 and 1996, tells ESPNcricinfo that it could be, if it’s cleverly done. “It’s hard work. It’s quite a load which doesn’t mean it’s not doable, but you have to be smart about the way you expend your energy,” Flower said. “One of the key strategies will be how he recovers, rests and re-energises.”Player workload is a much-talked-about subject for all professional cricketers and rotation policies are commonplace in national squads. The trouble is that it’s difficult to rest someone who wears as many hats as de Kock, especially as South Africa are still working on their combinations and could do with the certainty of having three roles taken care of. “You don’t want anything to give,” Flower said. “A player of Quinton de Kock’s quality gives your incredible flexibility on selection. He is a genuine allrounder and allows you to balance your side easily.”Beuran Hendricks and Quinton de Kock celebrate the end of Jason Roy’s knock•Getty Images
Some of the pressure can be taken off him through a strong core of senior players, something South Africa barely have but are trying to hang onto. That’s one of the reasons Faf du Plessis has travelled with the ODI squad to India. “For any captain, his lieutenants are important, not any more necessarily for a keeping captain.” Flower said. “But for any captain to have a core nucleus of influential players is important.”South Africa are also in the process of building that so, for now, de Kock is the fulcrum around which everything turns. He is likely to continue captaining, keeping and opening the batting for the foreseeable future and Flower has some advice: while captaining and keeping wicket go hand-in-hand, captaining and batting may not.”The physical positioning of being behind the stumps is a wonderful place to assess the game from; it’s the prime place,” Flower said. “From there, you can see if its swinging, reverse-swinging, read the pitch and the bounce. It’s about the skill of compartmentalising after that. It’s about being able to take off the captaincy hat and put on the batting helmet and shifting from leader to batsman. If he can keep his thoughts as simple as that, and be disciplined in making that switch, he will fine.”And yet despite this, if any aspect of the triple role is likely to suffer, it will probably be de Kock’s glovework, as Flower himself experienced when his concentration on the specific role wavered. You don’t want to make any mistakes and I didn’t feel like I could dedicate enough time to it in training and on the field,” Flower said. “Because of the flow of the game, that really close focus on expecting every ball to come your way and taking every sharp chance, can be lost sometimes. Any mistake you make is highlighted and you feel like you are letting everyone down. Maybe it’s a little easier in a fifty-over game.”ALSO READ: South Africa should do “anything” to get de Villiers back for T20 World Cup – RhodesFlower captained and kept wicket for 16 Tests (albeit he didn’t open), averaging a creditable 49.28 with three hundreds. However he gave up the gloves when Tatenda Taibu broke onto the scene and he was only too happy to do so. “It was so much easier to be lolling about on the outfield and I had so much more time and energy,” he remembered. That’s not advice de Kock will want to hear but it’s something for South Africa’s management to keep in mind. Luckily, they have two other wicketkeeper-batsmen in the current squad who could step up if needed. Heinrich Klaasen, who was the leading run-scorer against Australia, is one option while Kyle Verreynne, who impressed in his debut series with scores of 48 and 50 in two of the three games and stunning outfield work, is another. Both of them are relatively new to the international scene and need time to find their feet and secure a spot before any of talk of them taking over from de Kock can be entertained.Meanwhile de Kock has to keep trying to turn South Africa’s fortunes around, after their worst summer since readmission and as they build for major white-ball tournaments. There’s three in the next three years with back-to-back T20 World Cups and the 50-over World Cup in 2023 and the new management staff were appointed with that as their end-goal. South Africa’s obsession with winning a World Cup will only end when (if) they finally succeed, and until then, they will have to deal with every criticism, from team composition to mental fortitude. That will be de Kock’s biggest test of all.”He is very physically talented and looks fit, and he is a beautiful batsman to watch,” Flower said. “But it will also be about how he deals with criticism about himself, and how he deals with that emotionally on behalf of the team.”
da bet sport: It's the same old story for Chelsea this season as they continue to bounce erratically between victories and defeats.
da dobrowin: Mauricio Pochettino's side fell to a painful defeat against Liverpool in the League Cup Final last weekend and looked like they would follow it up with an embarrassing home defeat to Leeds United during the week.
However, the west Londoners dug in and came back to win the game 3-2 thanks to a last-minute winner from Conor Gallagher.
The team's season now ultimately hangs on their progression in the FA Cup, but before they can even think about the quarter-finals, they'll have to go through some league opponents first.
Tomorrow's trip to the Gtech Community Stadium to take on Brentford offers them a chance to get revenge on the side that beat them 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in October.
With that, let's take a look at the side that could enact that sweet revenge for the West Londoners, with Pochettino likely to make up to five changes to the team that scraped past Leeds during the week.
1 GK – Đorđe Petrović
So the first position of the XI brings with it the first change, as Đorđe Petrović comes in for Robert Sanchez.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion shot-stopper must be feeling pretty annoyed at the moment, as after being dropped at his former club, it looks like he's been demoted at Chelsea as well.
Petrović, while not perfect himself, has looked more assured between the sticks than his older teammate ever did before injuring his knee against Everton.
This is also borne out in the numbers, with the Serbian boasting a save percentage of 71.2% in the league to Sanchez's 70.5%, per FBref.
Moreover, the fact that Pochettino opted to start the senior keeper against Leeds in the FA Cup suggests that he isn't the number one anymore.
2 RB – Malo Gusto
Right-back is a position that picks itself at the moment, as the injury to Reece James has allowed Malo Gusto to show the league just how good he is.
Now, there have been a few errors from the Frenchman here and there – the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers springs to mind – but at just 20 years old, that's going to be the case.
In all, the former Lyon gem has, as journalist Ben Jacobs puts it, "been outstanding for Chelsea."
3 CB – Axel Disasi
With Benoît Badiashile still out injured and Thiago Silva's status unknown, Axel Disasi will be set to keep his place in the backline for the trip to Brentford.
The Frenchman had a mediocre game against Leeds on Wednesday and received a 6/10 from the Standard's Dan Kilpatrick for his troubles, but just a couple of weeks ago, he put in a mammoth performance away to Manchester City and received a 9/10 from Nizaar Kinsella.
He'll need to play more like the latter tomorrow as while the Bees are currently struggling, Ivan Toney has still been scoring and has four goals in seven games this season.
4 CB – Levi Colwill
ronald-araujo-levi-colwill-liverpool-opinion
The second change of the night comes at left-centre-back as Levi Colwill comes in to replace Trevoh Chalobah.
Colwill has started 76% of Chelsea's league games this season, and that number would have been higher had he not missed a handful of games through a hamstring problem.
5 LB – Ben Chilwell
Ben Chiwell Chelsea
The third change comes at left-back as Ben Chilwell comes in for the youngster Alfie Gilchrist.
The former Leicester City man has only started 32% of the team's league games this season, primarily due to a hamstring injury that kept him sidelined between September and January.
Moreover, he has started the last four league games on the bounce, so seeing him on the bench this time around would be a surprise.
6 DM – Moises Caicedo
Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo.
Keeping his place in the middle of the park will be Moises Caicedo.
Now, while his performance against Leeds on Wednesday was far from his best, he was still impressive and provided the assist for Nicolas Jackson's leveller in the first half.
In addition, he has started 83% of the team's league games this season.
7 DM – Enzo Fernández
Starting alongside Caicedo will be the man who has for most of the season, Enzo Fernández.
The World Cup winner was one of the best players for the Blues against Leeds, picking up a 7/10 from Kilpatrick and providing the assist for Conor Gallagher's late winner.
With 33 games under his belt already this season, it's practically a certainty that the Argentine starts at the Gtech.
8 RM – Cole Palmer
Cole Palmer
The right of the midfield brings the next change as Cole Palmer comes in for Noni Madueke.
The "absolutely sensational" Palmer, as described by Alan Shearer, has been one of the few bright spots in Chelsea's otherwise disappointing campaign this season, and while he was rested against Leeds, he'll surely start tomorrow.
The 21-year-old has scored 12 goals and provided nine assists in just 31 games for the Blues so far and will be looking to add to that tally against the Bees.
9 CAM – Conor Gallagher
Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher celebrates.
Speaking of bright spots, boyhood Chelsea fan Gallagher is undoubtedly another.
The Epsom-born dynamo has been described as "the heart" of the team by talent scout Jacek Kulig, and based on his performances this season, it would be hard to disagree.
The 24-year-old has scored four goals and provided six assists in 35 games for the Pensioners this year, and while Mykhailo Mudryk did reasonably well in the ten against Leeds, Gallagher should be back there for a league game.
10 LM – Raheem Sterling
The left-wing berth could be taken up by Raheem Sterling, as even with how the Englishman performed on Wednesday and the fact he was booed off the pitch at Stamford Bridge, it might be wiser to drop Mykhaylo Mudryk instead.
