Liverpool and Slot now best placed to sign £320k-p/w star for free in 2025

da bet7: Liverpool have now shot to the front of the queue to sign a new attacker for Arne Slot in 2025, it has been claimed.

Questions over Liverpool's attack

da apostebet: It has been a perfect start to life at Liverpool for Arne Slot, with his side seven points clear at the top of the Premier League and having lost just once across all competitions in 2024/25.

That form has been spearheaded by Mohamed Salah, who provided two goals and an assist to help them secure a 3-3 draw with Newcastle United in their most recent outing. Out of contract this summer as things stand, the 32-year-old is currently top of the Premier League goalscoring charts ahead of Erling Haaland, while only Bukayo Saka has more than his eight assists.

However, the season has been less fruitful for Liverpool’s other forwards. Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa have both spent much of it sidelined through injury, while only Luis Diaz has scored more than twice for Slot’s side this season when you take away Salah’s contributions.

With Jota and Chiesa both injury-prone, and Darwin Nunez doing little to impress into his third season at Anfield, Liverpool could be required to add yet more firepower to their ranks next summer, especially if Mo Salah departs the club for nothing.

Now, they have been tipped to secure a former Premier League winner for free.

Liverpool linked with Leroy Sane move

That comes as reports in Spain claim that Liverpool are now best placed to sign Bayern Munich forward Leroy Sane next summer.

The German forward’s current £320k a week deal in Bavaria expires at the end of the season, and he is yet to agree a new one at the Allianz Arena, with a recent report claiming that the German will have to give up as much as €4m euros per year to remain in Germany.

Ignored by Klopp: £32m Liverpool flop is now outscoring Salah in 2024

Klopp sold a star at the beginning of his Liverpool era, and now that very flop is outscoring Mohamed Salah in 2024.

ByAngus Sinclair Dec 6, 2024

That has led to clubs beginning to circle for his signature next summer, and the report claims that Liverpool “are the best placed to sign him as a free agent” should a deal not be agreed, despite previous reported interest from fellow Premier League sides Arsenal and Newcastle United.

Though Sane has struggled with injuries throughout his career, he is a world-beater on his day, with teammate Jamal Musiala dubbing him “one of the best wingers in the world” in 2023.

However, he would likely need to drop his salary if a move to Merseyside was to become a reality, with his current wages in Germany putting him second to only Salah in Liverpool’s top earners.

With Chiesa and Jota both already in the mercurial but rarely fit category, Sane’s arrival seems unlikely unless one of those depart in the summer, but if he could sustain fitness, he could provide another dimension to Slot’s attack.

Is Emi Martinez injured? Aston Villa update amid questions of goalkeeper missing Premier League action ahead of 2026 World Cup qualifying duty with Argentina

Martinez and Asensio failed to make the squad as Aston Villa edged out Brentford in a crucial Premier League clash on Saturday courtesy of Ollie Watkins' strike. The win helped the Villans climb up to the seventh position in the table. After the game, Emery explained why the duo were dropped from the team.

Speaking to reporters, the Spanish coach said: "They were yesterday…not feeling good. They had some muscle pain, not really so important because we tested them, but they weren’t available to play today. We decided to avoid risk with both. Hopefully they can recover for Wednesday."

Emery is prioritising their upcoming Champions League round of 16 second leg fixture against Club Brugge next week. Although the English side have a 3-1 lead from the first leg, the tie is far from being over as the Belgian club are capable of turning things around. Martinez will also be in action for Argentina later this month as the reigning world champions face Uruguay and Brazil in 2026 World Cup qualifying matches.

After their European fixture on Wednesday night, the Villans will enjoy a well-earned holiday due to the international break and will be back in action on March 30 as they take on Preston in a FA Cup quarter-final match.

Liverpool want to ruin Amorim’s Man Utd plan by signing "talented" £84m gem

As the Arne Slot machine keeps hitting the jackpot, Liverpool are now reportedly plotting to get an early victory over new Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim by signing one Sporting CP gem ahead of interest from their rivals.

Liverpool transfer news

If there was a definition for seamless transition then 14 wins in 16 games would be among them. Slot has entered Anfield and simply picked up where Jurgen Klopp left off whilst implementing his own calmer, more controlled approach than the exciting, positively frantic style of the German. And things were no different against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League, as Luis Diaz’s hat-trick sent Xabi Alonso packing.

Back on top in the Premier League and in European football, Michael Edwards will now want to get Liverpool back to the top in the transfer market following a quiet window last time out.

The Reds have already been linked with the likes of Aurelien Tchouameni, but now reportedly want to spoil one of Amorim’s first plans at Manchester United.

Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.

According to TeamTalk, Liverpool now want to sign Geovany Quenda from Sporting Club, who will only let their 17-year-old winger leave if his hefty €100m (£84m) release clause is triggered.

Those at Anfield sit alongside Manchester City and Manchester United with their interest and the latter may well have the advantage on paper given Amorim’s Sporting links. That said, it would then be quite the way to deal an early blow to the new Red Devils boss by instantly luring one of his former players away from his grasp.

Quenda – still a teenager – is considered one of Sporting’s hottest prospects and is undoubtedly one to keep an eye on.

"Talented" Quenda is one for the future

Whilst it remains uncertain whether Mohamed Salah will put pen to paper on a new Liverpool deal, what is a known fact is that the Egyptian doesn’t have several years left at the top now that he’s 32 years old. In an ideal world, the Liverpool great will sign a new contract just as the Reds welcome the heir to his throne in the form of Quenda – a player who would instantly learn from Salah.

The young right-winger has been at the centre of significant praise so far this season, including from Football Talent Scout’s Jacek Kulig, who described him as “one of the most talented wingers in world football” this week.

Replacing Salah will be no easy task, whenever that may be, but getting one over on Manchester United and Amorim whilst doing exactly that would be quite the move from those at Anfield.

Com o resultado, a equipe de Bragança Paulista chegou aos 21 pontos, pulando para a 10ª colocação, enquanto o time catarinense, por conta do revés, caiu para a 14ª posição com seus 18 pontos.

BOM INÍCIO DO RED BULL BRAGANTINO

PRESSÃO DO BRAGA CONTINUAVA

RED BULL INICIA MELHOR A SEGUNDA ETAPA E MARCA DUAS VEZES

Sylhet to host 2022 Women's Asia Cup starting October 1

Women’s internationals to be played in Bangladesh for the first time since October 2018

The 2022 Women’s Asia Cup will be held at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Bangladesh, from October 1 to 16, with seven teams competing in the T20 tournament. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is yet to officially announce the dates of the tournament, but the details were confirmed to ESPNcricinfo by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) women’s committee chairperson, Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel. The tournament will take place after the 2022 Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in the UAE concludes in the last week of September. The ICC released its first-ever women’s Future Tours Programme last week, in which the first two weeks in October had been earmarked for this year’s Women’s Asia Cup.According to the tournament itinerary accessed by ESPNcricinfo, India – the most successful team in the history of the competition – Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia and UAE, are the participating nations besides the hosts, and will arrive in Bangladesh on September 27 and September 28.”The proximity to the airport and the hotel where the seven teams are expected to stay makes the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium the best choice for the BCB,” Chowdhury, who is also a BCB director, told ESPNcricinfo on Monday. “Ground 1 of the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium is where we are looking to host the Women’s Asia Cup matches and Ground 2 is where the training will take place.”No women’s international matches have been held in Bangladesh since Pakistan’s tour of the country in October 2018. The 2022 Asia Cup will also be the first time since the 2014 T20 World Cup that Sylhet will host any women’s international fixtures.”As host nation, Bangladesh has delivered several major men’s and women’s continental and world events in the past,” said Chowdhury. “This year, we are happy to welcome the Asian Cricket Council’s Women’s Asia Cup to our country for the first time, specifically to Sylhet, which was home to matches during the 2014 men’s and women’s T20 World Cups, too.”With Bangladesh recently being named by the ICC as the hosts of the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, Chowdhury said talks are firming up between the BCB and the ICC to stage the knockouts of the world event at the Sylhet International Stadium.”We are making all arrangements to welcome spectators, including school students, for all the matches of the Women’s Asia Cup because we want to generate substantial interest around women’s international cricket and the Bangladesh women’s team leading up to the 2024 T20 World Cup,” Chowdhury said. “We are planning on advertising both tournaments well given we are working with the ACC and ICC to make the Asia Cup and the 2024 T20 World Cup, respectively, a success.”As things stand, we might even see the semi-final and final of the 2024 T20 World Cup also being played in Sylhet, so we are looking forward to putting up a good show for the Women’s Asia Cup. The ongoing 12th edition of the Women’s National Cricket League is also being played in Sylhet, so there’s already a fair bit happening in the city as far as women’s cricket, especially in the T20 format, goes.”The Women’s Asia Cup – which has been played in the T20 format since 2012 – is usually a biennial competition, but was last held in 2018 with unfancied Bangladesh clinching a final-ball thriller over six-time winners India in Kuala Lumpur, to lift their maiden major title. The 2020 edition, which was scheduled to take place in Bangladesh and later postponed to 2021, was eventually cancelled.Among the seven teams set to play, UAE and Malaysia booked their berths through the qualifying route after entering the final of the 10-team ACC Women’s T20 Championship that took place in June. UAE, undefeated and eventual champions in that competition, defeated the hosts Malaysia in the final by five wickets.

"Sharp" £60,000-p/w Leeds star now has new injury and will miss Coventry

In a frustrating blow for Daniel Farke, Leeds United will once again be forced to cope without one star player following a recent injury update ahead of their clash against Coventry City this Saturday.

Leeds injury news

Given how their squad was decimated by the summer transfer window, Leeds could at least do with a full side to choose from as they look to make up for last season’s promotion heartbreak by returning to the Premier League at the second time of asking.

So far, however, that has not been the case. Farke has been forced to cope without the likes of Joe Rodon and Maximilian Wober at different stages of the campaign, in which his side initially struggled to remain consistent.

As things stand in the Championship, Leeds sit sixth and five points adrift of West Bromwich Albion at the top of the league. The Yorkshire club have finally shown glimpses of their quality in recent weeks though, to put a poor start behind them with one loss in their last five league games.

If they are to continue their recent form this weekend, however, then Farke’s side will have to do so without one summer signing. As confirmed by Farke, Leeds will be without Manor Solomon when they play host to Coventry this weekend after the Tottenham Hotspur loanee suffered a new injury.

The winger had just recovered from a back problem and looked on course to return on Saturday, but a hamstring injury has now delayed that return, much to the frustration of those at Elland Road.

Speaking on team news ahead of Coventry, Farke told reporters: “A few injury updates. Manor’s back issues have resulted in a hamstring problem and will miss this game. Dan still out, Max had a setback in training with his knee. There’s a question mark with Pascal and his adductor, not able to train today.”

More frustration for "sharp" Solomon

After showing glimpses of his quality in the early stages of the season, a second injury setback in as many weeks will undoubtedly leave Solomon feeling incredibly frustrated. His loan spell to Elland Road was supposed to hand the winger crucial game time as he looks to rediscover the form that initially earned him a big move to Spurs in the first place. But as things stand, there will be concerns over his ability to remain fit and firing.

Farke will certainly hope to see the £60,000-a-week loanee return after Coventry, having told reporters via Leeds United News earlier in the campaign: “Solomon has experience in England. He has shown a lot. He was a bit in his rhythm already. I was sure he could deliver with his experience and he did. It was also crucial to give that perfect assist. He looked sharp in training.”

Following Coventry, Leeds travel to Norwich City in a repeat of last season’s play-off semi-final, in which the Whites eventually eased past the Canaries in dominant fashion.

Giles takes a long-term view

England’s selection policy for this one-day series has split opinion – and defeat at Old Trafford suggested they will struggle to match Australia – with the role of Ben Stokes as a third seamer a key issue

George Dobell10-Sep-2013In 18 months, when the World Cup has been won or lost, it seems fairly safe to assume few will remember the result of this NatWest Series. As a consequence of the expansion of the international calendar, several sides have identified a need to prioritise. The World Cup has become the goal at the end of each four-year cycle in ODI cricket and almost everything that leads to it is little more than a stepping stone.Even encounters between these two old rivals. Partially in an attempt to exploit the market for such games, England and Australia have played ODI cricket against one another every year since 2001 with the exception of 2008. Sometimes those meetings have come in global events; usually they have not. It is hard to keep something so commonplace special.England, certainly, see it that way. By resting five senior players and granting opportunities to several new faces, they have demonstrated that this series has been relegated to the category of ‘development opportunity.’An Australian camp looking to shore-up reputations and build some confidence before heading home may interpret it differently. But make no mistake: it is, as England found after winning the CB Series in early 2007 after their drubbing in the Ashes, little consolation.England’s policy may see them concede a few battles. It will smart to lose any games – as it should – but if it helps them win the war, they will feel the pain was worthwhile.England’s aim is to identify the two or three players who will help them improve from Champions Trophy runners-up to winners of the World Cup. It may prove, in the case of injury or retirements, that their 2013 Champions Trophy squad requires more reinforcement but, for now, England are looking for at least one allrounder, an effective third seamer and a big-hitting batsman. If they turn out to be one person, all well and good. With that in mind, the selection of their squad is not entirely logical. Quite apart from including red ball performers – the likes of Chris Jordan – for a white ball format, they have also included a 32-year-old opener, Michael Carberry, who has little chance of dislodging any of England’s top-order regulars.England have four men – at least – who are happy in the top three. Carberry is a fine player who is unlucky to have waited so long for such an opportunity, but it is unrealistic to expect him to dislodge Alastair Cook, Ian Bell, Kevin Pietersen or Jonathan Trott from the top four. And Joe Root is their natural successor.Pietersen missed the Champions Trophy and now he is back at the top of the order it may prove that his return creates a tussle for places among Bell, Trott and Root. With Eoin Morgan, Cook and Ravi Bopara all likely to feature in a first-choice top six, there could well be a high-profile omission over the coming months.

Ashley Giles’ view

Michael Vaughan’s calls for a refund for spectators

It’s harsh. I think it was said in haste by Michael. It’s an exciting side to come and watch. Kevin Pietersen is here and Michael Carberry is an exciting batsman at the top of the order. Then you go Trott, Root, Morgan Bopara, Finn: there are some good names to watch. Then you have the youngsters. I’d hope the cricketing public would want us to bring through some of our young cricketers and expose them to what is the almost the harshest of environments, which is playing Australia.

Samit Patel and Ravi Bopara

Samit is obviously frustrated. Our balance has changed a little bit with Ravi batting at six and bowling. His record’s extremely good in one-day cricket and he’s done very well in this last few months. So whilst I can understand Samit’s frustrations i’d like to know where he gets into the side right now because we’ve got some very good cricketers in that eleven. He just needs to keep working hard, keep putting the figures on the board and working hard elsewhere as well.

Resting Ashes players

Obviously for the bowlers it’s mainly the physical wear of playing an Ashes series. That’s relevant to the batsmen as well. But there’s also the mental ware and tiredness. Bell has had an amazing series. He has been out in the middle for most of the series. And you can’t underestimate the amount of wear there is on Cook as captain. So we felt it right that those two guys had a break this series and come back fresh for the second Ashes series.

Giles on Overton and Jordan

Just having them around the group is really beneficial to the coaches and to them for the experience. Overton is raw but has pace and he’s aggressive and fits with our profile of big, tall nasty fast bowlers. Jordan had also been impressive, he bowls and can bat and fields everywhere. They are two very promising cricketers coming through the ranks. We had to rest two of our senior bowlers with back-to-back Ashes coming up and it’s a great opportunity to look at these young guys.

But it was not the selection of the squad as much as the selection of the team that was controversial at Old Trafford. By picking a team with Ben Stokes batting at No. 8 and performing the role of third seamer, England left themselves light on bowling options and subsequently conceded 315. Stokes remains, at present, a batting allrounder, and is currently being asked to fulfil a different role in international cricket to the one with which he is familiar in domestic cricket. However Ashley Giles, England’s limited-overs coach, justified the decision and the balance of the side. Admitting that the two Ashes series took priority, he reiterated the desire to use this series to learn more about their most promising players.”Obviously we want to win the series,” Giles said. “We always get upset when we lose. But there are other successes to be had. With an inexperienced bowling attack and someone like Carberry at the top of the order, we’ve had an opportunity to look at some young players.”In our strategic objectives right now we’ve got back to back Ashes. We’ve got to get through these two Ashes series, we want to win both series, and of course once we get into the new year we move that focus more towards the World Cup. So, at the moment, while it’s always frustrating to any coach that you can’t have your best side in the middle the reasoning’s absolutely spot on. We’ve got to look after our best players while looking at the next generation coming through.””If we came through the series and they had some success and they have moved on and improved, it gives us a much greater pools of players to look at with the 2015 World Cup in mind. Experience against this Australia side is hugely valuable for them and for us looking at players.”A great example would be Ben Stokes, who is playing in our side as a third seamer. His bowling has improved a huge amount over the past 12 months and his one-day record is improving as well. He has the potential to be a genuine all-rounder.”Him playing in that role – and I think he has already improved game on game – should be a great advantage to us and him. I’m not sure batting at eight and bowling is a role he will play down the line, but the experience of what he is doing right now is going to be hugely valuable.”Otherwise the balance is what we played in the Champions Trophy when we were very successful. Against New Zealand we played five specialist bowlers and it didn’t really work. That’s when we brought Ravi back into the side since when he has had a fantastic run in the team so I don’t believe we are just fiddling overs.”But when you have inexperience you are going to have to suffer some pain to get some gain and that’s a little bit of what we are looking at. Saying that there is no reason why this team can’t win these games of cricket. There have been suggestions from the likes of former England captain Michael Vaughan that, such is the weakened state of this England team, the ECB should offer refunds to those who have bought tickets for these ODIs. But the argument for rest and rotation is overwhelming and, in the not too distant future, it may well be that it is the likes of Stokes and Jamie Overton that most excite spectators. This series is providing a peak into England’s ODI future.

Saved by Trossard & Saka: Arteta must finally drop 105-touch Arsenal star

And breathe. It was far more nervy than it ought to have been, but Arsenal maintained their latest title charge by securing a last-gasp win over Leicester City on Saturday afternoon, with the Gunners shaking off a limp second-half display to claim all three points.

With rivals Manchester City having ceded ground earlier in the day away at St James’ Park, the north London side needed to capitalise against the Foxes and looked almost certain to do so at half-time, having gone in at the break with a two goal advantage following goals from Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli.

This is the Premier League, however, and there are no easy rides – not even against a side chasing their first win of the season – with a James Justin brace, including a stunning second, pulling the visitors level just before the hour mark.

Staring down the barrel of a second successive draw in the league, up stepped that man Trossard to prod home – via an unfortunate Wilfried Ndidi – following yet another set-piece late into stoppage time, before Kai Havertz bundled home at the death to put the icing on the cake for Mikel Arteta’s side.

The Spaniard will no doubt be feeling a palpable sense of relief following those late heroics, although he will have some thinking to do following a mixed bag of performances from his side.

Arsenal's key performers vs Leicester

There’s no better place to start than with Mr Reliable himself, Trossard, with the Belgian wizard coming up clutch again amid his involvement in the ‘winner’ on the day, while also racking up three key passes in total as he sought to fill Martin Odegaard’s creative void in the side.

Creativity is also a word to be used for his ever-consistent teammate, Bukayo Saka, with the Englishman having looked to have picked up a sixth assist in as many league games this season – only for Trossard’s late strike to instead be awarded to Ndidi.

Regardless, the 23-year-old was at his brilliant best even as the Gunners toiled at times, racking up a ridiculous haul of eight key passes, while also successfully completing eight dribbles and winning 11 ground duels.

101 touches

93% pass accuracy

8 key passes

6/11 crosses

4 ‘big chances’ created

8/12 dribbles

11/22 ground duels won

20x possession lost

9.4 match rating

On the opposite flank, it was also a welcome return to the scoresheet for Gabriel Martinelli, with the Brazilian speedster – who also teed up Trossard on the stroke of half-time – now boasting three goal involvements from his last two outings.

A great day then for Arteta’s attacking unit, although the impact of Trossard and co may well have clouded the performance of Thomas Partey, with the Ghanaian fading once again in the centre of the park.

Thomas Partey's performance vs Leicester

On the face of it, it looked to have been a serene day for the experienced destroyer, with the 31-year-old having racked up 105 touches and recorded a 92% pass accuracy, while also winning five of his eight ground duels.

Thomas Partey

That said, the stats don’t tell the full story, with Partey notably culpable for the away side’s second, having seemingly not done enough to prevent the cross which led to Justin’s venomous volley.

The sight of the former Atletico Madrid man ambling along has become all too familiar for the Emirates faithful of late, with club legend Ian Wright having notably voiced his criticism after the midfielder appeared to be merely “jogging back” in the build-up to Brighton and Hove Albion’s equaliser back in late August.

With options limited in midfield due to the absence of both Odegaard and new man Mikel Merino, Arteta has been almost forced to keep faith with Partey thus far, although whether he can be relied upon week in, week out is another matter.

As football.london’s Kaya Kaynak stated – after awarding the £200k-per-week asset a 6/10 rating – he appeared to ‘tire massively’ after the break, before being withdrawn in the closing stages.

With Arsenal going on to seal the win without Partey on the field, perhaps there is an argument for him to be ousted from the side moving forward, amid the hope of seeing teenage playmaker, Ethan Nwaneri, feature more frequently.

That alteration would force Declan Rice to take on the sole, number six berth, yet with Partey’s legs appearing to fade, the Gunners can’t afford to carry any passengers in their bid for the title.
