With Callum Wilson on course to leave Newcastle United at the end of the season, PIF are reportedly interested in signing a Premier League forward who’s already got a hat-trick to his name against the Magpies.
Newcastle transfer news
Those in Tyneside have struggled to find consistency so far this season, having endured a summer transfer window to forget with Paul Mitchell at the helm for the first time. Spending the majority of the window on a failed pursuit to sign Marc Guehi, Newcastle opted out of turning to alternative options and have struggled to reach their best form ever since under Eddie Howe.
Looking to put things right in 2025, Mitchell has already reportedly set his sights on some fresh attacking options for Newcastle. Names such as Bryan Mbeumo and Antoine Semenyo have recently stolen plenty of headlines and could yet emerge to hand the Magpies a major boost going forward. And they’re not the only Premier League options that they could turn to.
According to Caught Offside, PIF and Newcastle are now interested in signing Evan Ferguson in 2025 amid his struggle to break into Fabian Hurzeler’s strongest side at Brighton & Hove Albion. Still valued at £60m nonetheless, the forward could yet leave the Amex on loan with the likes of West Ham United and Rangers also interested ahead of January.
Newcastle willing to accept bid for £120k-p/w star after Howe blocked exit
He’s lost his starting place…
ByTom Cunningham Dec 1, 2024
Fans at St James’ Park should already be well aware of Ferguson’s quality after he scored a hat-trick against Newcastle at the start of last season, as Brighton sealed a 3-1 victory at the Amex.
A forward who’d be a ready-made replacement for Wilson, Ferguson could yet sharpen what has been a blunt Newcastle attack at times in the current campaign under Howe.
"Amazing" Ferguson needs Brighton exit
As Brighton have grown in quality, it’s players like Ferguson who have suffered from their success, particularly whilst Joao Pedro continues to steal the headlines this season. Still just 20 years old though, there’s no doubt that the Irishman is still a player full of potential, but game time will be key at such an age – game time that Isak’s recent unavailability would have offered him at St James’ Park.
Brighton strikerEvan Ferguson.
The young forward has earned plenty of praise at The Amex, including from former teammate Alexis Mac Allister, who told reporters as relayed by BBC Sport: “Evan is an amazing player. He was not having his best evening, but he showed his quality. We are really happy for him, we know how important he is.”
Of course, if Newcastle chase Ferguson’s signature on a permanent basis then his £60m price tag may see them fall behind in the race, especially amid previous profit and sustainability concerns. After failing to recruit well enough last summer, however, Mitchell must make a statement in the form of reinforcements when 2025 arrives.
Sean Dyche is fighting hard to save his job as Everton manager and now a new update has thrown his long-term future at Goodison Park in doubt.
Dyche on thin ice at Everton
The Blues are back in Premier League action after a two-week break this weekend, hosting Brentford in an important Premier League game on Saturday afternoon.
Having steadied the ship after an appalling start to the season, there are arguably still too many poor results on show at Everton, with a 1-0 defeat away to bottom-of-the-table Southampton hugely disappointing. The 0-0 draw at West Ham last time around was also one of the worst games of the season to date, even though a point was far from a disaster.
This all means that there is still a huge amount of pressure on Dyche to keep his job, with the Englishman still having just about enough credit in the bank, having steered his side away from the Premier League relegation zone.
Everton are sitting in 16th place in the table heading into the next round of fixtures, highlighting the importance of three points against Brentford. The result is huge for anyone associated with the club, but especially Dyche, with a new update now emerging regarding his future.
Friedkin eyeing new style at Everton
According to a fresh claim from Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, prospective new owner Dan Friedkin “wants to move away” from Dyche’s style of play at Everton in the future, suggesting that time could be running out for him.
The report adds that “Friedkin and his team could take the opportunity to put a marker down at Goodison Park if results decline even further”, bringing in a boss with a different approach.
Everton manager Sean Dyche
This is an update that could be met with encouragement by plenty of Everton supporters, even though Dyche still has some fans on his side, considering he has enjoyed good spells, not to mention ensuring that they have avoided relegation to the Championship.
The football that the Blues are playing is uninspiring, however, with entertainment value at a minimum and their route one style not easy on the eye. Against West Ham in their last match, for example, Everton failed to create a single big chance, and in the defeat away to Southampton, they had only 35% of possession against arguably the team struggling more than anyone else in the division.
Every time Dyche finds himself under significant pressure, he seems to pull out an important result, giving him more time in the job and proving to Friedkin that he is worth persevering with.

This new update does suggest that time may be running out for him, however, with the new owners having an idea of the kind of football they want to be seeing at Goodison Park, and at their new Bramley Moore Dock stadium next season for that matter.
Leeds United and the 49ers are interested in a move to sign an exciting attacker in January, according to a new report. The Whites picked up an impressive win on Tuesday, beating Middlesbrough 3-1 at Elland Road, which has lifted them to second place, a point behind leaders Sheffield United.
Major update shared on "painful" new injury to Leeds star ahead of Preston
One of Leeds’ star men took a nasty looking knock against Middlesbrough this week.
ByBrett Worthington Dec 12, 2024 Leeds United news
It’s been a good week of results for Daniel Farke and his team, but it has come at a cost, as the German revealed that Junior Firpo is going to be out for six weeks after he suffered a hamstring injury, which he describes as “heartbreaking”.
Fellow defender Joe Rodon also suffered a “painful” blow on Tuesday, as Farke revealed after the game, which could put him in doubt for the game against Preston. He said: “He was hit on his knee, and I think there’s a bruise, and it’s pretty painful. But he’s also a warrior, and we couldn’t afford to lose him.”
But there was good news for the Whites, as they were able to welcome back full-back Sam Byram, who played 85 minutes in the win over Boro. They also welcomed back midfielder Ethan Ampadu, who came on to replace Byram and see out the final moments of the match.
Leeds interested in move to sign Louie Barry
According to TEAMtalk, Leeds United have joined the race to sign Louie Barry from Aston Villa in January. The 21-year-old is currently on loan at League One side Stockport County from the Premier League side and has been in impressive form throughout the campaign.
The young forward has been with the Midlands side since 2020 but has only made one appearance in the first team, as he’s spent most of his time on loan elsewhere. Barry was at Stockport during the 2023/24 season and helped them seal promotion to the third tier, and it was agreed in the summer that he would rejoin them for this campaign.
He has since bagged 14 goals, making him League One’s top goalscorer this season, and that has alerted Villa to the idea of sending him on loan to a higher-level team in the New Year. Leeds have now joined the race to sign Barry on loan in January, but they are not the only team keen on a transfer.

The report states that a number of their Championship rivals are also keen on securing his signature in 2025. It was reported earlier this week that Middlesbrough were the front runners to secure the signing of Barry ahead of Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday. Villa do have a release clause in Barry’s loan deal with Stockport, which means they can terminate the loan without paying a fee and then can send him elsewhere for the second half of the campaign.
Leeds do already have players like Daniel James, Wilfried Gnonto, Largie Ramazani and Manor Solomon who play out wide, but the latter could be recalled by parent club Tottenham Hotspur in January if they feel he isn’t being used enough.
Unai Emery’s transfer business during his time in charge of Aston Villa has been excellent. Not only has he moved on players such as Moussa Diaby and Douglas Luiz for lavish fees, but he has brought in players who have wonderful futures in the game.
It marks a change from the recruitment that had occurred under previous manager Steven Gerrard, with several players failing to live up to their hype.
Steven Gerrard’s recruitment at Aston Villa
The former Rangers manager took charge in November 2021, tasked with leading Villa to the European spots. Gerrard made a few decent signings during the January 2022 transfer window, bringing in players such as Philippe Coutinho and Lucas Digne, who made solid impacts.
That summer, Coutinho’s loan deal was made permanent, before the likes of Robin Olsen, Leander Dendoncker, and Diego Carlos were signed ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
Ex-Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard.
Out of these players, only Carlos is still featuring for the first team, but what once looked like an impressive signing has potentially turned into a financial mistake…
How much Aston Villa spent on Diego Carlos
The Brazilian defender cost the club £26m in 2022, but he suffered a serious injury on his first Premier League start for Villa, ruling him out for the majority of his debut season.
He returned to full fitness last term, making 38 appearances in all competitions, yet Carlos has fallen down the pecking order this season, starting just seven times in all competitions under Emery.
The £100k-per-week defender has struggled in the Premier League. Across four games in the top flight, the centre-back has won just 1.3 total duels per game – a success rate of 31% – while losing possession six times per game and making only 0.5 tackles each game.

Hardly the statistics of a player at the top of their game. Will Emery consider his future when the January transfer window rolls around in a couple of months? Especially as he can call on several other players who appear to be favoured in his position.
These performances haven’t exactly done wonders for his current market value since joining the Midlands side, as it has dipped drastically over the previous two years…
Diego Carlos’ current market value at Aston Villa
Spending £26m on a player when the club had no European income was a risky piece of business and, in this regard, it has not paid off.
Indeed, according to Football Transfers, Carlos is currently valued at just €4.5m (£3.7m), clearly representing a massive drop from the fee Gerrard spent to secure his signature.
Market Movers
Football FanCast's Market Movers series explores the changing landscape of the modern transfer market. How much is your club's star player or biggest flop worth today?
Emery must now ruthlessly ditch him from the squad in January, although Villa may have to take a huge loss on the defender, as his current market value does not suggest that any team is likely to spend £26m on him now.
This works out as a staggering 86% decrease from the original £26m fee in just over two years, proving that it hasn’t been the best piece of transfer business conducted by the club in recent years.

da bet7: Liverpool have now shot to the front of the queue to sign a new attacker for Arne Slot in 2025, it has been claimed.
Questions over Liverpool's attack
da apostebet: It has been a perfect start to life at Liverpool for Arne Slot, with his side seven points clear at the top of the Premier League and having lost just once across all competitions in 2024/25.
That form has been spearheaded by Mohamed Salah, who provided two goals and an assist to help them secure a 3-3 draw with Newcastle United in their most recent outing. Out of contract this summer as things stand, the 32-year-old is currently top of the Premier League goalscoring charts ahead of Erling Haaland, while only Bukayo Saka has more than his eight assists.
However, the season has been less fruitful for Liverpool’s other forwards. Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa have both spent much of it sidelined through injury, while only Luis Diaz has scored more than twice for Slot’s side this season when you take away Salah’s contributions.

With Jota and Chiesa both injury-prone, and Darwin Nunez doing little to impress into his third season at Anfield, Liverpool could be required to add yet more firepower to their ranks next summer, especially if Mo Salah departs the club for nothing.
Now, they have been tipped to secure a former Premier League winner for free.
Liverpool linked with Leroy Sane move
That comes as reports in Spain claim that Liverpool are now best placed to sign Bayern Munich forward Leroy Sane next summer.
The German forward’s current £320k a week deal in Bavaria expires at the end of the season, and he is yet to agree a new one at the Allianz Arena, with a recent report claiming that the German will have to give up as much as €4m euros per year to remain in Germany.
Ignored by Klopp: £32m Liverpool flop is now outscoring Salah in 2024
Klopp sold a star at the beginning of his Liverpool era, and now that very flop is outscoring Mohamed Salah in 2024.
ByAngus Sinclair Dec 6, 2024
That has led to clubs beginning to circle for his signature next summer, and the report claims that Liverpool “are the best placed to sign him as a free agent” should a deal not be agreed, despite previous reported interest from fellow Premier League sides Arsenal and Newcastle United.
Though Sane has struggled with injuries throughout his career, he is a world-beater on his day, with teammate Jamal Musiala dubbing him “one of the best wingers in the world” in 2023.
However, he would likely need to drop his salary if a move to Merseyside was to become a reality, with his current wages in Germany putting him second to only Salah in Liverpool’s top earners.
With Chiesa and Jota both already in the mercurial but rarely fit category, Sane’s arrival seems unlikely unless one of those depart in the summer, but if he could sustain fitness, he could provide another dimension to Slot’s attack.
Pollard reiterates demand for another T20 tournament, in addition to the CPL, to “unearth new talent” for West Indies
Deivarayan Muthu31-Aug-2022With Andre Russell joining Trinbago Knight Riders and Nicholas Pooran returning to the line-up, they are dripping with experience and pedigree. With captain Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine and Colin Munro also in the mix, Knight Riders can stake a claim for being the strongest T20 franchise side in the world. Pollard, though, refused to be drawn into comparisons with other T20 teams on the circuit, and pointed out that big names alone can’t guarantee success.”Yes, I’ve played for a lot of teams with a lot of great players, but obviously, when you look at the team on paper, we have world-class players and a lot of guys who have played around the world,” Pollard said. “Again, to say the strongest and go down that route, I don’t think we are looking at that.Related

CPL 2022 – Patriots, Knight Riders the teams to beat; new-look Royals hope for turnaround
“We are looking at what we can achieve as a team and what we can do on the field as individuals, inclusive of what the team requires, and hopefully, with the experience of everyone, we can bind that together and show some sort of results when the time comes.”For the second time in less than a year, Pollard has called for a regional T20 tournament in addition to the CPL for identifying fresh talent. After West Indies had suffered an early exit in the 2021 T20 World Cup, Pollard had said that a domestic T20 tournament would help expand their talent pool.”I’ve been advocating it. I’ve said it after the last World Cup campaign as well. That is how a lot of cricketers have been unearthed in the Caribbean – through the local tournaments,” he said. “There is the CPL, which is great for the Caribbean players and great for the viewership as well and great for everybody, but in terms of the development – five overseas players coming and four can play at a time, which leaves seven locals. I don’t think that is enough to see the emerging talent. But, at the end of the day, the franchise owners and sponsors are putting in a lot of money to see good cricket. I don’t think they are just looking at development; they’re looking to be known on the global scene.”So, I’ve said [it before] and I’m going to say it again, yes, I think we need another tournament so we can continue to bridge the gap of getting our players through. 6ixty was a good start, but it’s only ten-over cricket, so guys have to go from ball one. We want to unearth new talent not only for T20 cricket, but for 50 overs and Test cricket as well, so that we can have longevity in the sport and compete at the highest level on a consistent basis.”St Kitts and Nevis Patriots are the defending CPL champions•Randy Brooks – CPL T20 / GettyBravo: ‘We can also be a dominant force in the CPL’ After winning CPL 2021 and the inaugural men’s 6ixty, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots have now set their sights on defending their CPL title to do a three-peat and establish themselves as a dominant force in the region, their captain Dwayne Bravo said.”Yeah, I’m very excited. Last season I made the decision to leave TKR and try to challenge myself in a different way to keep myself motivated for the game and try and help others develop their game and their cricket,” Bravo said. “I think I made the right decision at the right time and luckily enough, we won the trophy last season, which gave St Kitts & Nevis Patriots their first-ever CPL title. Three days ago, we also won the first ever Universe Boss Trophy.”It’s a good foundation that we started to build, and we started to believe, as a franchise and as a team, that we can also be a dominant force in the CPL and that’s our challenge. That’s our aim and we’re looking forward to defending our title. Not only that, but we also look forward to playing a brand of cricket that entertains fans and makes our franchise owners and the island of St Kitts & Nevis Patriots proud.”Dominic Drakes, who has been Bravo’s project since last season, has grown in leaps and bounds as a T20 allrounder. Bravo is eager to give him the platform to take his game to the next level in the forthcoming CPL and also create a team environment that allows the other players to thrive.Dwayne Bravo played with Dwaine Pretorius in the IPL, and decided to bring him to the Patriots•BCCI”I’m very impressed with him [Drakes] and very happy with his development in the last 12-18 months. It’s my responsibility to make sure that he doesn’t fall back and keep pushing him and encouraging him,” Bravo said. “Not only Dominic, but so many other players who are involved this season – I want to see Sherfane Rutherford be dominant again. I want to see Evin Lewis follow up from his last season – he was our best player with the bat. Young [Dewald] Brevis… want to calm him down a bit because he has so much talent but sometimes, I think, can be reckless.”Looking forward to seeing my brother [Darren Bravo] get back into some good form – it’s a move for him from TKR as well. I think that change might do well for his cricket and for his career.”Bravo also revealed how he played a role in bringing South Africa allrounder Dwaine Pretorius into the CPL after the IPL, where they played together for Chennai Super Kings earlier this year. Pretorius has a collection of slower balls in his repertoire and often fronts up to bowl the tough overs. Does Bravo see a bit of himself in Pretorius?”Yeah, when I was there in the IPL with him, I asked him if he would be interested in playing CPL and he said ‘yes’. And so straightaway I made a phone call and talked to the owners and got on to his agent and now happy to have him here,” Bravo said. “I’m looking forward to his season because he’s someone very experienced and he’s very eager to learn and obviously, he has international experience, so it’s a good combination to have someone like him who has the experience and is still willing to learn.”

WHAT HAPPENED
In a thrilling match at GEODIS Park, Portland Timbers goalkeeper James Pantemis made MLS history by saving two penalties in a single half against Nashville SC.
The Canadian’s remarkable feat puts him in elite company, as he becomes just the sixth goalkeeper in MLS history to save two penalties in the same match – first since 2017. Not only that, he is only the second goalkeeper to save two penalties in a half, joining Tony Meola, who did so in 2002.

Ollie Robinson became the first player to bowl Babar Azam twice in a single Test match•Matthew Lewis/Getty Images
Two Tests against Pakistan down with one to go, with a series win secured and history made, Ollie Robinson is in a good place. He might “only” have eight wickets in his four innings to date, but they have come at an average of 18.37, to reduce his overall Test figure to 19.61 after 13 appearances, and have showcased his impressive dexterity. He has dabbled in bouncers and reverse-swing, along with his usual unerring accuracy with the new ball, and in the second Test at Multan, he became the first seamer to bowl Pakistan’s captain and batting phenomenon Babar Azam twice in a match. Most heartening of all, his 62.1 overs have been of a base level intensity that has not let batters off the hook.Heartening because Robinson has revealed he considered retirement in the summer, after constant bumps in the road on a long journey to his return to action. After having his conditioning called into question at the end of a humbling tour of Australia last winter, back issues meant that Robinson was unable to play any part in the three-Test tour of the Caribbean that followed. Complications followed at the start of the 2022 summer: further back troubles and a dental issue saw him miss a chunk of cricket with Sussex, as well as the first four Tests under the new leadership duo of Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum. In light of the comments about his lack of fitness, Robinson’s subsequent setbacks triggered something of a pile-on from those who assumed that a lack of work ethic was the reason for his continued absences. In reality, Robinson believes that those ailments were nothing more than unfortunate timing for a cricketer still only 28, and attempting to return fitter than ever before. Speaking on Thursday in Karachi ahead of the third Test which begins on Saturday, Robinson opened up about a dark time which had him wondering about leaving the game altogether, with a vague idea of moving into property.Related

“There were points when I didn’t think I was going to play for England again, or play cricket again,” Robinson told BBC Sport. “I kept coming back to full fitness, then getting an injury or illness, then another injury. There was a point in June time when I thought ‘I might have to look at what else I can do here, I don’t think I’m going to be able to carry on playing cricket’. It’s been tough and there has been some dark days, but tours and series wins like this make it all worthwhile.””It’s a massive confidence-booster for myself,” he said of the Pakistan series, on pitches that have seemed unhelpful to quick bowlers, and yet England’s have taken 23 of the 40 wickets available so far. “Twelve months ago I was struggling to even get on the park. It’s a really proud tour for me, in the fact my body has got through it, I’ve bowled well and I’ve proved to the world, almost, I can do it in any conditions. Not just for the team, but for myself. It’s been a really good tour so far and hopefully we can win 3-0 this week.”The nature of Robinson’s back issues were particularly grating, and for a time they showed no signs of abating even while he was focussing on the rehabilitation and reinforcement of his body. The root of the problem proved hard to establish, in part because the spasms would come and go, ultimately at random but frustratingly just when it seemed he was on the verge of making a return to competitive action.”I had different types of scans. MRIs, X-rays. It was just a bit of wear and tear,” he said. “Because there was so much inflammation, every time I got back to full fitness, the inflammation was there. It was jarring again and giving me another back spasm. I ended up having five injections, which took the inflammation away and allowed me to train a bit harder. Then it settled down. It was a strange one, because I felt it was career-ending, the way it felt.”Things can change so quickly. When you’re in those dark spaces it’s hard to see through that. When you get to this time, and if it ever happens again in the future, I know I can come out the other sides of it, still fighting, still bowling well.”He feels he is lucky to get out the other end. And so are England. Robinson returned to the Test side for the second match of the series against South Africa at Emirates Old Trafford and, not only has the team won all four matches since, but Robinson has contributed 20 dismissals at 16.35. He went past 50 Test wickets in his 11th Test – the joint-fastest by an England bowler since Ian Botham in 1978 – and, at the age of 29, there is a very real sense he is in it for the long haul as a new-ball bowler for his country. In the absence of Stuart Broad, who sat out the trip following the birth of his first child, the manner in which Robinson has dovetailed with Anderson has been vital to England’s approach. His skills have not been dulled with an older ball in hand, and he has been able to work to unconventional plans, including hitting the pitch on a slightly shorter length, and utilising the skid available from the surfaces to hit the top of off stump. It should be said, none of that application of fine-tuned skill is a coincidence. it is merely the reward for a change of lifestyle based on those around him.”I’ve changed my gym sessions, I’ve changed my training. I’ve upped the intensity of my training,” he said. “You only have to look at Stokesy, when he trains, to look at how intense some people train. I’ve tried to get as near that as possible. Jimmy has played for 20 years now. He’s a great role-model for me and someone I look up to.”Test cricket has thrown up a myriad of challenges for Robinson, even if his on-field exploits have been impressive. His debut against New Zealand was tumultuous when historic offensive tweets emerged hours after he was presented with his maiden cap at Lord’s at the start of the 2021 season. Now, his focus is on closing out 2022 with another win to seal England’s second clean sweep in Asia, after beating Sri Lanka 3-0 in 2018.”It’s an exciting time for English cricket. We’ve done 2-0 and if we can do 3-0 it will be an amazing effort. The boys are prepared for one, last big push to get the 3-0 whitewash.”
