Perfect for Bruno & Mbeumo: Man Utd to make bid for £20m star this week

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has been a player who has thrived at Old Trafford over recent years, undoubtedly being the shining light in the first team squad.

The Portuguese international managed to register 37 combined goals and assists in the 2024/25 campaign, by far and away the highest tally in Ruben Amorim’s side.

Since his arrival back in January of 2020, the 30-year-old has notched 98 goals and 83 assists, averaging a contribution every 1.15 games he’s featured in – a simply staggering feat for a midfielder.

However, there’s only so much the former Sporting CP talent can do alone, desperately needing added reinforcements if the side are to rise up the Premier League table next campaign.

Work is already underway behind the scenes, as evidenced by the addition of Matheus Cunha, but further signings are expected between now and the end of the transfer window.

The latest on United’s hunt for new signings this summer

Over the last couple of days, midfielder Douglas Luiz has reemerged as a potential addition, with a move away from Juventus expected after starting three league games last season.

He’s not the only Juventus star on their radar, with striker Dušan Vlahović also a player in their sights, with the Serbian available at a cut-price of just £15m this summer.

Juventus' Dusan Vlahovic

However, work has also been done elsewhere, resulting in progress being made on a deal to secure Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra, according to one Spanish outlet.

They claim that the Red Devils are set to make a bid for the Spanish U21 this week, after he made 36 LaLiga appearances throughout the 2024/25 campaign.

It also states that the 22-year-old could be available for as little as £20m this summer, but numerous sides such as AC Milan are also in the race for his signature.

Why United’s £20m target could be perfect for Bruno & Mbeumo

After Cunha’s subsequent transfer to join United, fellow Premier League attacker Bryan Mbeumo has been a player hugely linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo celebrates after the match

The 25-year-old has been the subject of two separate offers from Amorim’s side this window, but no agreement has yet been reached for the Cameroonian’s signature.

Mbeumo has already stated his desire to join the Red Devils, but no deal can progress if a fee isn’t agreed with Keith Andrews’ side, who are demanding a package totalling £65m.

However, his tally of 20 league goals last season showcases the threat he possesses within the final third, undoubtedly handing Amorim the talent he needs within attacking areas.

Should he complete any move, a deal for Guerra would also aid the forward, whilst also being perfect for Bruno and bolstering the ranks at the Theatre of Dreams.

The Spaniard’s arrival would allow the club captain to operate in his more natural number 10 role, having more of an impact in such a position as seen by his tallies from 2024/25.

He also has the tools to provide Mbeumo with the tools to thrive, as seen by his tally of 4.8 progressive passes and 4.2 passes into the final third per 90.

Guerra, who’s been labelled “phenomenal” by journalist Zach Lowy, also attempted 2.7 take-ons per 90, along with 1.5 carries into the final third – showcasing his ability to get the ball into the opposition’s defensive third.

Out of possession, the youngster had also won 1.7 tackles per 90, winning 46% of the tackles he entered, having the ball-winning capability that the heart of the side has been lacking in recent months.

The £20m fee touted for the LaLiga star would be an excellent piece of business, having the potential to build on his early success in the professional game, given his tender age.

Should he carry his skillset over to England, he would be a phenomenal signing, having the ability to allow Bruno and fellow pending addition Mbeumo to thrive in the process.

31-Dec-2019England v New Zealand, World Cup final, Lord’s, 2019
By Sambit Bal
So, what do we remember? The dream or the tragedy? The drama that lasted all day or the mockery in the final moments? Ben Stokes’ nerveless brilliance, or the accidental six that rolled off a ricochet? The two heart-stopping ties, or the ridiculous tiebreaker? England’s coronation after 40 years of longing, or New Zealand’s heartbreak to last a lifetime? The truth is that we will forget nothing: the slow burn, the twists, the blunders, the absurdity, the unimaginable finish, the cruelty and the euphoria, and the whole damn rollercoaster of it. Add to this the weight of the occasion and the poignancy of the two perennial World Cup bridesmaids seeking their first title. This was a match like none other. It was just as well that the World Cup belied the expectations of being a run fest, because rarely do run fests produce the humming tension of low-scoring thrillers, and at long last, we were rewarded with a final that can lay claim to be the greatest World Cup match ever. Some would argue that it would have been just to have joint winners after the Super Over was tied, but in some ways, the imperfect result etches the match even deeper in memory. Beyond outcomes and heroics, the purest joy of sport lies in the experience, and if you were at Lord’s that Sunday, to even consider any match to be greater would feel like infidelity. After the storm, the smiles•AFP India v Australia, first Test, Mohali, 2010
By Sharda Ugra
This is a favourite, which edges out Durban 2010 for sheer sentimentality, and the madcappery of its last day. The Test was one final flourish of the big rivalry of the previous decade – Australia v India. At its centre was the batsman who, amid many skirmishes between the two sides, became his team’s totem.A target of 216, the eighth wicket falling at 124, with only Ishant Sharma and Pragyan Ojha to follow. There was only one being who could haul tailender-ass over the finish line, and had made a habit of pulling victory out of the straitjacket of looming defeat. Mohali 2010 was the complete VVS Laxman package – the impossible task, the dicky back, the snarling Aussies, the company of two eager but far from qualified companions. Our composure was being shred one over at a time. We, who had sort of given up, couldn’t move, because Laxman kept the score moving. Then, finally, when there were six runs left, Ojha was almost run out, and there came a rare sighting: total meltdown from Mr Equanimity, an all-around pleasant fellow with an absence of epithets. We saw Laxman lose it, in an angry, bat-jabbing tirade – but he ensured that India didn’t. At the end, all was forgiven in a sunburst of smiles and celebrations.India won a few more home Tests that followed, and then began the slide of the last of their titans into their other lives as coaches, commentators, celebrities, comics. They have left us, of course, with the memory of many Mohalis.Bangladesh’s nine-run victory in Dhaka was followed by a nail-biter in Mirpur that sealed a 4-0 whitewash of New Zealand by the hosts•Associated PressBangladesh v New Zealand, fourth ODI, Dhaka, 2010
By Mohammad Isam
New Zealand’s record against Bangladesh coming into this 2010 ODI series was 17-1, and the home team was without regular captain Mashrafe Mortaza and Tamim Iqbal. It was supposed to be a cakewalk. Enter stand-in captain Shakib Al Hasan, then 23 years old.Shakib was instrumental with bat and ball in the first two games, and with the series on the line, he made a century from 44 for 3, which gave Bangladesh a competitive 241 to defend. As ever, he was not content with doing well in just one department. He took 3 for 54 with his slow left-arm spin, sometimes teasing the batsmen in the air, sometimes making the ball fizz off the black pitch. He was the most animated person in the field too, especially while talking to his bowlers. In front of a full house at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Bangladesh prevailed by nine runs, in a match that has entered folklore. It was their first ever series win against strong opposition, and it was fitting that it came at the start of the decade, starring the man who would define Bangladesh cricket in the 2010s.Spooktacular: Abdul Razzaq hauled Pakistan over the line with a 72-ball 109 on Halloween in 2010•AFPPakistan v South Africa, second ODI, Abu Dhabi, 2010
By Danyal Rasool
That this game took place this decade is incongruous enough. Just look at that Pakistan line-up: Fawad Alam actually playing; Zulqarnain Haider – who would famously disappear before the final game of the series – the first-choice wicketkeeper; and, as cricket looked ahead to a decade dominated by T20 opulence, Asad Shafiq opening the batting. They took on a juggernaut of a South African side, which had won ten ODIs on the bounce, including the first one of this series. Now, a Colin Ingram hundred helped them to 286, and Pakistan were already battling history: never had they chased down a score north of 223 to beat South Africa. They slumped to 70 for 4, and at 228 for 7 needed 59 in 5.5 overs. They had Abdul Razzaq, though, a T20 finisher since before the format existed, and on his day as unstoppable a hitter as – the comparison is unapologetic – Viv Richards himself. It wasn’t until Razzaq’s three sixes in the 47th over that a Pakistan win appeared even conceivable. It came down to the last wicket and 14 off the final over, but by then Razzaq had found all the cheat codes to batting, and unleashed them upon Albie Morkel. He hit six sixes and three fours off his final 19 balls, getting himself up to a 72-ball 109, while the tail contributed a solitary run. Pakistan swung an absurd one-wicket win on Halloween night, thanks to a man possessed who had spooked South Africa. You know it’s a big win when the sprinkler dance makes an appearance•Getty ImagesAustralia v England, fourth Test, Melbourne, 2010
By Andrew McGlashan
For someone who grew up in the 1990s, winning in Australia is a rare thing. The three Ashes series hosted in Australia either side of England’s 2010-11 triumph are 14-0 to the home team. Maybe English sport does wallow in the past too much, but what Andrew Strauss’ side achieved in 2010-11 remains special. There were many high points, but nothing was better than the MCG – and specifically the opening day. Australia had won in Perth to make it 1-1 and anticipation was high that they could halt England’s ambitions on Boxing Day at the G. Midway through the day, the scoreboard read Australia 98 all out. A few hours later there was the added line, England 157 for 0. It was a thing of beauty. The rest of the match was a procession towards England retaining the Ashes. And there was also the bonus of watching Ricky Ponting lose his cool. Early on the fourth day, with the 19,000-strong crowd made almost entirely of England supporters, Tim Bresnan claimed the final wicket. There are worse ways to spend Christmas. When 2 becomes 1: Vernon Philander’s five-for sealed a 2-0 win for South Africa to displace England at the top of the Test rankings•PA PhotosEngland v South Africa, third Test, Lord’s, 2012
By Firdose Moonda
South Africa have not won the World Cup, but their pinnacle came at Lord’s in 2012, when they took the Test mace off England in a match worthy of the occasion. After Hashim Amla’s triple-century opened the series in emphatic fashion at The Oval, where South Africa won, and rain and a rampant Kevin Pietersen ensured a draw at Headingley, the teams headed into the final Test, which England had to win to stay No. 1.England eked out a six-run first-innings lead, and at 259 for 4 in the second innings, South Africa looked as though they would be content to bat England out of contention. An inspired second-new-ball performance from the home attack ensured that did not happen: England took 6 for 92 and needed 346 to win. At 16 for 2 on the fourth evening, with Vernon Philander giving a masterclass in the art of subtle seam movement, England looked unlikely to get there. But on an electric final day, Jonathan Trott, Jonny Bairstow and Matt Prior made a fight of it.Eventually, Philander – loved at home, looked down upon away – seamed it South Africa’s way. His 5 for 30 took South Africa to the top of the Test rankings, where they stayed for the best part of three and a half years, and his “stats don’t lie” comment will be long remembered as the crowning moment for South Africa’s golden generation.More picks by our writers and correspondents hereMore in the decade in review, 2010-19

Faf du Plessis wants intensity, not hope, from embattled South Africa

In the midst of the gloom that is South Africa’s World Cup campaign, their captain hasn’t lost his smile. Can his positivity rub off on his squad?

Alan Gardner in Cardiff14-Jun-2019″Hope can set you free.” So goes the famous strapline from . Then again, according to John Cleese’s character in , it’s the hope that kills you. “Who ever hoped like a cricketer?” That was RC Robertson-Glasgow, the great cricket writer of the mid-20th century. Now Faf du Plessis has added a new variation on the theme. “Hope is a very dangerous thing,” he said, as he mulled the gauntlet South Africa face at this World Cup, after losing their opening three games and suffering a washout in their fourth. His team are “in a position now where we need to win five games in five”, starting with Afghanistan in Cardiff on Saturday, and du Plessis has been focusing his players on the need to grab destiny by the lapels rather than just let things run their course.Who doesn’t love a sporting comeback story? Whether it’s Mumbai Indians losing five of their first six matches on their way to the 2015 IPL title, or the emotion-sapping turnarounds effected by Liverpool and Tottenham on their way to the Champions League final a few weeks ago; making insurmountable positions surmountable is what great teams do. So where is Faf taking his inspiration from? How does his team rope-a-dope their way to the World Cup title from here?”I’ll keep my secrets to myself,” he said with a smile. “No, it’s just been checking in with each guy individually, seeing where he or she is, making sure that I make clear to them that there needs to be purpose in what’s coming up. You can’t just hope for things to change. Hope is a very dangerous thing, try and get yourself out of that space as quickly as possible. Finding different keys in different players, where I feel that they can be better, where they can take more responsibility, more ownership. Trying to unlock players’ best that is lying somewhere underneath.”Faf du Plessis finds a reason to smile in overcast conditions•IDI via Getty ImagesThe rain that has bedevilled the tournament over the past week has given du Plessis the chance to hone his motivational patter. South Africa came in playing the chilled-out, under-the-radar card; now it’s “backs against the wall” and no room for mistakes. “Everyone has written the team off,” said du Plessis, which might be just the motivation they need. “Hopefully that allows guys to come out and play the way that they want and the way that they can. I truly believe if we do that, we’ll be a very dangerous team. We just haven’t fully unlocked the potential we have in our side.”We had a bad start to the tournament. But that’s done now, we have to make sure we put all our energy and focus into the now and what’s coming up next. I truly believe that if we carry those ghosts of the last week with us, it’s going to be tough to get out of the hole, so the conversations of the last couple of days, especially with all the rain around, gives me more time to check in with the players, make sure guys are on the right path and have put that week behind them.”Because you can’t be looking back. If we’re looking back we’re just going to float through this tournament, win one or two games, we’re not going to achieve what we want, so the fact there has been a bit of rain has given me clarity on the discussion we have with the team, and I feel that’s been really good off the field. In an ideal world, yes, you would like more practice, but also one net session now is not going to make the team play better. It’s more the conversations we are having, making sure that we’re strong and knowing exactly what we need to do. I felt in the first week the intensity in our play was down, that’s not good enough and that’s why our results weren’t the way we wanted.”The South Africa players form a huddle before play•Associated PressSouth Africa are not yet a certainty for the World Cup knackers yard, but it will take some top-level horse whispering from du Plessis to get them back into the chasing pack for the knockout stage. Still, with his easy manner and relaxed drawl, there is no sign that the pressure is beginning to tell. Rather than animatedly explain “I hate losing”, as his predecessor AB de Villiers did after a group defeat in the 2015 tournament, du Plessis is likelier to focus on the positive – or what “raises your tank”, as he put it.”I try and look at myself first and find ways that are my pillars and my keys to being strong. My family, my faith, my positive talking, my visualisation. Those are things that I draw energy from and it’s important you spend as much time on things that raise your tank and not spend too much time on things that drain you. I start with myself and then try and speak to the guys about what is it that keeps you in that real place where you feel like you’re at your best when playing cricket.”He could also manage to still crack a smile or two, despite admitting this was his biggest challenge leading South Africa. “But I suppose it’s what the last two years of captaining the side have prepared you for,” he said. “Whether it’s for good situations or bad situations, you try and mature as much as you can as a captain, try and be ready for when it’s really, really tough, because then your team looks to the leaders in the side. It’s a hard time but also a time I’m really owning up to the fact I need to step up and make sure I lead the team in a time when they need me.”Hope might be dangerous. But when du Plessis twinkles, well, who wouldn’t want to live dangerously?

Aribo 2.0: Rangers targeting move for "unplayable" star on free transfer

Rangers are set to be very busy in the transfer market in the next few weeks.

Ever since Russell Martin was unveiled as the new manager last week, the Ibrox side have been linked with umpteen new signings and rightly so, considering their squad requires a major overhaul this summer.

So, could the Gers’ land an attacker labelled “unplayable” in a move reminiscent of a recent fans’ favourite?

Rangers' interest in a new midfielder

According to a report by Joshua Barrie of the Rangers review, Rangers are ‘interested’ in signing Kwame Poku this summer.

Kwame Poku for Peteborough.

The 23-year-old is a free agent having left Peterborough United, with there unsurprisingly plenty of competition for his signature, including from newly-promoted Championship side, Birmingham City.

Poku began his senior career in non-league, representing Cray Wanderers and Worthing, earning a move to Colchester before joining Peterborough in 2021, making 147 appearances for Posh, most notably winning back-to-back EFL Trophies at Wembley.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony believes he will “be a Premier League star in the future”, estimating that he’ll one day “cost £30 million”, so could Rangers tempt him north of Hadrian’s Wall on a Bosman?

Joe Aribo's Rangers career

Six years ago, in an eerily similar deal, Joe Aribo arrived at Rangers as a free agent, a reported £300,000 in compensation was paid, from Charlton Athletic, who were also in EFL League One at the time.

Aribo would go on to make 149 appearances for the Light Blues, scoring 26 goals and registering 25 assists, most famously breaking the deadlock in the Europa League Final against Eintracht Frankfurt at Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.

A few days later, the Nigerian international helped Rangers win the Scottish Cup at Hampden, but this would prove to be his last outing in a blue jersey, sold to Southampton for £6m in the summer of 2022.

So, could Poku have a similar impact to that of Aribo? Let’s compare the duo to find out.

As the table outlines, Poku’s statistics this season were actually more impressive than those of Aribo from his final season at Charlton, despite the fact the former sat out three months of the campaign following hamstring surgery in December.

Writer Kai Watson labels the Ghanian international a “strong ball carrier” who is excellent at “cutting in on his left and getting a shot away”, concluding that he would be a “bargain” on a free transfer. Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson, meanwhile, asserts that he can be “unplayable” at times.

Meanwhile, Oliver Walton of Football League World described him as ‘one of the most in-form players in English football’ earlier this season, while Venkatanarayanan of Total Football Analysis outlines how he boasts the best ‘attacking numbers’ across the entirety of the EFL, praising his ‘excellent finishing’.

So, let’s assess that assertion.

As the table highlights, Poku had an exceptional season at Peterborough, ranked first for assists per 90 and second for successful dribbles per 90 as well, on top of his generally impressive attacking statistics across the board.

Venkatanarayanan of Total Football Analysis also believes his best position is as an attacking midfielder, albeit he can be deployed out-wide, noting that his ‘biggest strength’ is his ability to progress the ball through midfield.

Meanwhile, Fintan O’Reilly of Total Football Analysis labels him a ‘thrilling playmaker’ who is ‘great in tight spaces’ and a ‘very intelligent passer’, destined to go to the very top, so Rangers should do everything in their power to make this deal come to fruition.

Chelsea now want to trigger £70m release clause for "unbelievable" PL star

Chelsea now want to trigger the £70m release clause included in the contract of an “unbelievable” Premier League star, according to a report.

Blues set for exciting end to the season

As the season approaches its climax, the Blues still have everything to play for, with the result in next Sunday’s trip to Nottingham Forest set to decide whether Enzo Maresca’s side return to the Champions League next season.

Not only that, but the west Londoners also have the opportunity to become the first club to win all three major European trophies, should they defeat Real Betis in the Conference League final at the end of the month,

In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, Gus Poyet recently spoke about the importance of Maresca winning the Conference League, despite it not being the most prestigious competition, saying: “I think for him, Chelsea winning the European competition will be the platform to build on for next season. It’s always important winning a trophy for Chelsea and you cannot lose that.

In order to compete for the more major honours next season, however, Chelsea may need to strengthen this summer, and a report from Spain has now revealed they are lining up a move for Eberechi Eze, fresh off the back of the winger scoring the winner in the FA Cup final.

Such is the Blues’ level of interest, they are willing to trigger the £70m release clause in Eze’s contract, but there may be competition for the Crystal Palace star’s signature, with Manchester City also making moves.

Crystal Palace's EberechiEzecelebrates with the trophy after winning the FA Cup

Palace are, understandably, reluctant to sell the 26-year-old, but the England international thinks this summer could be the perfect time to leave and start competing for major trophies more regularly elsewhere.

Eze could be "unbelievable" signing for Chelsea

The 26-year-old could now be tempted to remain at Selhurst Park beyond the summer, with his goal in the shock 1-0 FA Cup final victory over Manchester City securing Europa League football for the Eagles next season.

However, the London-born attacker has certainly earned a big move this summer, having regularly provided goals and assists in all three of the domestic competitions he has competed in this season.

The Palace star has been performing at a very high level for quite some time, having been lauded as “unbelievable” by Statman Dave last season, so it is little wonder that some of the Premier League’s top clubs are queuing up for his signature.

Right now, Eze will undoubtedly want to revel in the glory of securing a first-ever major trophy for Palace, but the Englishman will have a difficult decision to make this summer, as a move to Chelsea could be of great appeal, should they manage to qualify for the Champions League.

Romano: Man Utd now make contact to sign £17m star who could replace Onana

da betcris: Manchester United have now made contact with an “unbeatable” goalkeeper as a possible replacement for Andre Onana, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Man Utd chasing defensive reinforcements

da bet nacional: United supporters are highly anticipating the Red Devils prioritising strengthening their forward line this summer, given the lack of goals scored throughout this 2024/25 campaign. However, while Ruben Amorim wants to improve his attacking options, he is also in the market to strengthen his defence, given Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans are on course to leave when their contracts expire.

Man Utd now readying £68m bid to beat Liverpool in race for Barcelona star

Man Utd are now preparing an offer to sign a player who is also wanted by arch-rivals Liverpool.

ByBrett Worthington May 6, 2025

It’s already been reported that United have held talks over signing centre-back Jonathan Tah on a free transfer. The German international is set to become a free agent as his contract at Bayer Leverkusen expires, and the Red Devils are now interested in a deal. However, they are not alone, as European heavyweights Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona are also circling with interest.

Tah is not the only defender under consideration, as a report from Spain has stated that United are ready to go all out and sign Ronald Araujo from Barcelona. The defender is a key player for the Spanish giants, but the Premier League giants hope an offer worth £68 million will be enough to tempt Barca into selling, as Araujo is considered a player who can help transform their defence.

Man Utd make contact to sign £17m ace as replacement for Onana

As well as looking to strengthen his centre-back options, Amorim could also be in the market for a new goalkeeper, and according to Fabrizio Romano, Man Utd have Torino’s Vanja Milinkovic-Savic on their goalkeeper shortlist.

Romano states that initial contacts between United and the player’s camp have taken place. The transfer expert also goes on to state that United are now waiting to hear how much Torino would want for their shot-stopper, but it’s been previously reported that he has a release clause worth £17 million from the end of July.

The 28-year-old, who has been hailed as “unbeatable” for his record of saving penalties, has a history at Old Trafford, as he joined the club back in 2014 before leaving in 2016 to move to Poland. The goalkeeper didn’t play a game for United but did represent their academy side.

Milikovic-Savic’s potential arrival at Old Trafford would likely see him replace Onana, as he is currently first choice for Torino, where he has kept 10 clean sheets in 34 Serie A games this season.

Meanwhile, for Onana, this season has been a struggle, with performances dipping from good to bad, and that inconsistent form is a reason why Amorim may be looking for a new number one. The Cameroon international, on £120,000-a-week, is still under contract until 2028, but United may look to cash in this summer, as there has been a mention of teams from the Saudi Pro League interested in a potential deal for Onana.

£21m star who agreed to join Arsenal last year teases potential 2025 move

Arsenal agreed personal terms with a “powerful” player last summer, and while a move ultimately didn’t come to fruition, it could happen this year instead.

Arsenal braced for Champions League semi-final tie against PSG

Mikel Arteta’s side have a golden opportunity to make 2024/2025 their most memorable campaign in decades, despite missing out on this year’s Premier League title to Liverpool by some distance.

Two season-defining European semi-final legs have the potential to pay dividends for Arteta’s side, with their first Champions League final appearance since 2006 on the line, not to mention the possibility of being crowned winners for the first time in their illustrious history.

Arsenal face-off against a PSG side who they’ve already beaten once this term, a 2-0 league phase win back in October, with Luis Enrique’s side also tasting defeat in Ligue 1 for the first time this season against Nice last week.

Riding high off their sensational 5-1 aggregate win over Real Madrid in the last round, Arsenal go into the tie carrying plenty of encouragement, with Arteta urging his players to play with bravery.

“You’ve seen it first hand the way we approach the game against Real Madrid, the way we approach the game when we played [PSG] before, the way we approach every week,” said Arteta in his pre-match press conference.

“That’s not going to change, that’s who we are, it’s our biggest strength. The good thing as well about us is that we are able to adapt to very different contexts, and we have shown that again this season. Because sometimes you don’t want to, but the teams are able to take you to a different game, and feeling comfortable playing that game, and overcoming that game with yourself in a position that you play more of the game that you want, is a big strength. I think this season again we have demonstrated that we have the capacity to do that.”

Away from the pitch, sporting director Andrea Berta is preparing for his first summer window at the club. Reports suggest Arsenal want to sign a new second-choice keeper, and links to Espanyol starlet Joan Garcia are re-emerging as a result.

Joan Garcia teases summer transfer after agreeing terms with Arsenal last year

Arsenal are tipped as one of the main contenders to sign Garcia once again this summer, after the 23-year-old agreed terms on a move to the Emirates last year (Fabrizio Romano).

Now, the Spanish shot-stopper has dropped an update on his future, confirming Arsenal’s interest last summer and teasing the possibility of a move away from Espanyol this summer.

“There was a lot of interest last summer, especially from Arsenal, but I stayed here and since then I’ve been 100% focused on this season,” said Garcia to press in Spain.

“We all know the situation, not just mine but the club’s, and anything can happen. But the future will tell, and we’ll worry about it when the time comes.”

Espanyol's Joan Garcia makes a save

Garcia is viewed as one of La Liga’s standout goalkeeping talents after another great season, and he’d undoubtedly be a great back-up to David Raya. The cost of his signature, as things stand, is around £21 million – the current value of his release clause – but this could be seen as a real snip.

“García is such an athletic GK. His legs are so powerful and springy enabling him to generate more power to reach the ball,” said Football Analyst Ben Mattinson.

“Good flexibility, agility and his proactiveness enable him to be an alert shot-stopper in the box and recover to make double saves.”
